Does not surprise me at all ISIS are claiming responsibility. Hell, I even had seen on Reddit a few hours ago about some users talking about they had seen news articles claiming the guy recently converted to Islam to try and 'justify' this shooting as another extremist from an Islamic faith. I'm sure those news articles picked up that information as a new headline from the image and/or Twitter posts around it. I don't know if Trump has hailed it as an act of terrorism yet - I do know he said it is an act of pure evil, but if there are news articles out there stating the guy recently converted to Islam (whether true or not,) would seem to be trying to push the narrative for Trump to call it an act of terrorism; even though it should have already been called one.

It's a shame that our world has been brought down like this. I've seen many videos posted around the internet of people there at the shooting and it hurts me to hear everything that went on. I've read that the shooter, Stephen Paddock, had been staying in the Mandalay Bay hotel since September 28th, so this was definitely planned out.

My prayers go out to the families involved in this horrific time.

I wanted it to be confirmed before I commented but as soon as I heard it wasn't obviously an Islamic attack I was thinking that it must be a less obvious one, for a few reasons:

It couldn't have been a random psychotic break because of the level of planning involved, so it must have been either domestic terror or Islamic terror, and I think it was much more likely to be Islamic terror for one simple reason - the victim group. You can usually tell the political or religious leanings of a terrorist by looking at the people they target.

Eco-terrorists target people and places in the fossil fuel industry.
Christian terrorists target abortion doctors and clinics.
Right wing terrorists target left wing political actors or left wing people, and vice versa - like with Steve Scalise.
White supremacist terrorists target black people and vice versa.

But Islamic terrorists are different in that they target everybody regardless of your race, religion, or political views.

People are joking about this saying, "Maybe he just didn't like country music" but it serves to make a better point.
The only other reasonable justification for this besides Islamic terror is that he just didn't like country music or the people who like country music, which is obviously nonsense.
In that crowd you have right wingers, left wingers, Christians, Muslims, Atheists, black people, white people, etc.
To me his choice in victims proves beyond any reasonable doubt that this was an Islamic terror attack.

Either that or he did just have a very prolonged psychotic break, which could be completely possible considering I'm not a psychologist.

Edit: After reading through 002's post and hearing some more of the facts it seems like it probably was a prolonged psychotic break that had been building for years.

Anyone who knows me or pays attention to how I usually reply to topics like this should know that I'm not one to jump on the 'Islam is bad and responsible for everything bad' train so it's sad to see that some people think that is what I was doing when I wrote this.

I was simply using what I thought were the facts at the time to come to what seemed like a reasonable conclusion at the time.

Don't worry about the downvote accident. But, I can't believe I walked into school today because I didn't watch the news this morning to hear about the updated numbers. A friend told me about it in class and it's terrible, I don't get why someone would do this. :c

After sifting through all the Islamic BS, these are what I believe to be the facts thus far. I do not believe this has anything to do with Islam or even if he was Islamic.

The man suspected of killing at least 58 people and injuring 515 when he opened fire on concertgoers Sunday night has been identified as Stephen Paddock

His dead body was discovered by police in a room at the Mandalay Bay Resort after he took his own life, with 'over 10 rifles' discovered on the scene

Paddock, 64, lived just 90 minutes outside Las Vegas in the city of Mesquite, where he bough a home in a retirement community back in 2015

The retired accountant and multimillionaire lived at the $400,000 property with girlfriend Marilou Danley, 62, who is currently in the Philippines

Paddock had hunting and fishing licenses as well as his pilot's license, and worked at Lockheed Martin as an auditor for three years in the late 1980s

He had no criminal record in the state of Nevada and officials said at a press conference early Monday that they are still looking into his possible motive

Paddock's father was a serial bank robber who was 'diagnosed as psychopathic' and spent eight years on the FBI Most Wanted list after escaping prison

Paddock previously filed a lawsuit against Cosmopolitan Hotels & Resorts in 2012 following an incident that occurred at their Las Vegas casino. Paddock spent two years in court fighting his case after submitting his initial complaint citing 'Negligence - Premises Liability.' It was ultimately dismissed with prejudice in late 2014, and exact details of the case were not available on the Clark County Courts website.

Paddock checked into the hotel on Thursday, September 28, using his girlfriend's ID according to sources

His brother said he was not an avid gunman and did not know how he could amass so many guns.

He was an avid gambler, doing online bets and has been known to go through $30k per night. Sources did not say if they were wins or losses.
