So me and my dad got into a fight a few months back and he pressed charges because at the time he was mad. We have a court date and he wants to drop the charges which were simple assault. How would he do that?

He'll probably have to either get a lawyers advice, or simply tell the judge in court that he wants to drop the charges.

he could contact the person he got to file the charges but most of the time, the state will pick up the case if the charges get dropped

Probably depends on the local laws (Country/ state) and then which court you are under (County/Crown/ Supreme etc).

Get in touch with both sets of lawyers, your own and the oppositions - your father's. Ask for advice on the situation and what are the possible repercussions for cancelling.

Best of luck

The state might still pursue it if they consider it a domestic violence case, other wise just have you dad ask the judge
