ive been considering getting either a m.2 or a nvme ssd Which is better? I have a 850 eve 500gb and I was just curious if its worth the upgrade?

NVME drives are faster than M.2 because they use a PCI-E x4 slot on your motherboard (resulting in greater speeds than that offered via SATA interface)

If you were to buy one outright, I would buy an NVME drive. I don't think it would be worth upgrading just for the sake of it. A standard SATA SSD, like your 850 EVO, is good enough as it is.

I suppose that makes sense but wouldn't a m.2 be faster than a nvme as a m.2 plugs directly into the mobo?

There's a bit of confusion here so I'll do my best to clear that up.

M.2 is the physical port on the motherboard. It allows for both Sata and PCI connections. The SSD will determine whether it uses the SATA connections or the PCI connections. NVME will use the PCI connections. You will normally find that Sata M.2 drives are cheaper than NVME drives.
