I cannot for the life for me understand why game companies need these, they have to be making plenty off game sales and don't need this crap, because some of them make it damn near impossible to stay competitive without buying something. I just don't get it.

Extra income. I don't mind when microtransactions are cosmetic only.

Yeah it's one thing for cosmetics but when it starts to interfere with progression and fun take it out

Microtransactions should be cosmetic only. I have to assume that games cost more to make and maintain than they used to, so I can see companies wanting to pad their budget and profit with it. They are businesses anyway, so it makes sense if they just want to make more money as well. It sucks at times but understandable if done right.

I think microtransactions are good and bad. If its cosmetics and such, Thats the good part because nobody is really benefitting from it however as of recently (especially star wars bf2 controversy) we have seen bad cases where companies will put more damage and such on new armour and weapons and thats the part i completely disagree with.

If they can make more money then they'll add whatever. Microtransactions were never this bad. My first PC game I played, Runescape, you couldn't even buy items for your account. Just gold to unlock extra access to stuff really. They are stupid but they won't change and sadly that might just break video games.
