I accidentally dropped my work laptop today, it wasn't a huge drop or anything and there is no external damage. It continued working for a while.

Then it shut down and now won't start up as it says I need to install an operating system on the hard disk, and it says boot device not found. When I turn the laptop on I hear no sort of start up sounds.

Is the drive completely broken or just disconnected? How would you beat suggest to fix this?

It could be something with windows they have windows repair disks and usbs, but i think that the hard drive might have just got disconnected (the one that had windows on it)

Sounds like you either broke your HDD or something on the motherboard if you cant hear the boot sound. Or something was unplugged. Open you BIOS and check and if your HDD is selected as the main boot option.

I tried to take my shell of but didn't dare do t myself as it didn't sound too good and I didn't wanna do further damage. How much do you think it could cost to get somebody look at it?

try hitting f12 or delete as you turn it in and see if it brings up the BIOS, see if you can see anything off about the boot order. If that doesnt work then going int settings then recovery, advanced settings/startup, to troubleshoot and then uefi settings. Look for boot in the bios

I know how to open the BIOS but honestly after that I don't have a clue what I'm doing tbh. Bit of an amateur with all of this..

Since you still seem intent on fixing it yourself...

You don't own your work computer; it belongs to the company. If an employee tried to "take the shell off" a computer I had issued like you say you did, your boss would hear about it.

Nobody cares if you dropped it. Happens all the time. What they WILL care about is the fact that you tried to fix the computer yourself and made things worse.

Search on google or YouTube, your laptop type HDD BIOS setting. Don't change anything in the BIOS if you don't know what it is.
