So on the raider x299 the cpu power socket has 8 pins, yet my 750w modular psu has the 24pin cable running from the psu to the motherboard, then it has a 4pin plug stemming from that. I figured that this was the cpu psu cable, yet I am wondering now whether or not it is safe to just plug in the 4 pin to the 8 pin socket, or whether the i9 would be trying to pull too much power. I plan to overclock.

Your PSU probably doesn't have a 4 pin coming from the 24 pin. It's on it's own connector. What PSU do you have?
To answer your original question, yes, it will boot but not sure whaty will happen if you put any load on it.

Ah okay ty. I counted, and it was a 20+4 on the motherboard, and 24 in the psu with that main cable. Where do I plug these extra 4 from the 20+4 though? The +4 I put onto the motherboard already, but this little extra wire I pictured is still confusing me
Edit: Oh do you mean this wire plugs into an 8pin on the psu? Doesnt that mean the psu is connected to 28 while the board is connected to 24? Also why the 8pin and not a 4pin? Also left right or mid of the 8pin?
