Looking to upgrade my board, I currently have a MSI AM3+ paired with a AMD FX 6300.

I was thinking of getting

Gigabyte GA-H270-Gaming 3 LGA 1151 ATX Intel Motherboard

&

Intel Core i5-7500 Kaby Lake 3.4 GHz LGA 1151

Thoughts? Suggestions?

The price for the two will run me $256.78

i5-7500 is a bad idea. Either go Ryzen or Coffee Lake. You will also need new RAM anyway. The reason you didn't get help on your last thread when you asked for a CPU upgrade is because you didn't give us enough information to help.

If you're going to buy an intel pay the extra £15-£20 and buy the K version.

What model Ryzen would you recommend at that same price point?

what about this combo?

MSI B350 TOMAHAWK AM4 ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Ryzen 7 1700X 3.4 GHz 8 Core AM4

Price point at $326.33

Not even close. It's at LEAST £25 difference from a locked i5 to an unlocked SKU(like i5-8400 to 8600k, or i5-7500 to 7600k). Then you have to pay extra for an overclocking capable chipset, like Z270 or Z370. Then you still need to get an aftermarket cooler for your unlocked CPU, and you're looking at £30-40 at least for something reasonable.

Again, you will still need new RAM. That's at least another $80. R7 1700x makes no sense anyway, especially on a mediocre B350 motherboard.

If you want help, you need to give us more information.

What is your budget and currency?
What do you use your system for?
What are you looking to achieve with an upgrade?
Make and model of your case? And PSU would be handy too.
Rest of your specs would be useful.
Will you overclock?
