One line of thinking is that the New England Patriots signed free-agent outside linebacker James Harrison, in part, to gain Pittsburgh Steelers-based intelligence that could help the team. Bill Belichick didn't care to engage that topic.

"We're playing the Jets this week. I don't even know what that has to do with it," the Patriots' head coach said during his Wednesday morning news conference. "Maybe I'm missing something, I don't know." Told it was specific to the Steelers, and a possible playoff matchup, Belichick repeated, "We're playing the Jets this week."

Belichick clearly didn't want to talk in depth about Harrison, who signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the team on Tuesday that will pay him a prorated total of $58,823.52 for this week. How would Belichick describe Harrison's playing style?

"He's played outside linebacker for the Steelers. We'll see how it goes," he said.

Does Belichick see carryover to the Patriots' scheme?

"Yeah, I don't know. We'll start working with him and see how it goes," he said.

What are the coach's thoughts on Harrison's career?
"Good," Belichick replied.

How much is experience in big games a factor in signing him?

"Yeah, we can't control any of that," Belichick said.

Belichick said the frequency in which the Patriots have faced Harrison doesn't lead to more familiarity with Harrison because "every player is different." Belichick added that he didn't have much personal interaction with Harrison prior to Tuesday, when the 14-year veteran visited Gillette Stadium.

Asked how important that meeting was prior to signing Harrison, Belichick said, "It's always good to meet somebody."

Pretty sure Bill Belichick just hates the media. I can't say I don't support it though. Whenever the Patriots lose x amount of games or the AFCCG like in 2015, everyone tries to say "should it be Bill Belichicks last year?". Like, no.

Bill Bellichick is the Gregg Popovich of the NFL. And, as Greg Popovich does, he hates stupid questions and most of the questions reporters ask are stupid. It really doesn't surprise me that Bill would answer those people the way he does.

People who think the Pats signed James Harrison to gain knowledge are just ignorant. The Pats won't play the Steelers for at least another month (in the AFC Championship game if both get there), and by that team do you not think the Steelers would have changed their playbook? James Harrison at most could probably help the defense with 1 or 2 audibles at the line, but other than that he will not help them at all i that category.

The Patriots have no pass rush. James Harrison is good at pass rushing. Put two and two together and it is simple.

Pats are damn lucky man, James Harrison is old as hell and still a great LB.

I personally don't think they signed him just to get intel though, that seems pretty stupid.

If they meet in the playoffs and you think what he knows isn't a factor you're lying to yourself. Any player that can help his team will. Patriots need as many people as they can get at this point on defense.
I'm guessing the Steelers will do things differently if they do end up meeting in the playoffs.

people are making it seem like Harrison in going to have recon on the steelers if they have to play each other. i still think patriots are going to win it all even though i hate them with a passion

As much as I'd like to see him stay a steeler I'm glad he's getting playing time now, but I think he should accepted his mentor role and not bitch about playing time if the defense was doing good(which it is) if you are really a team player you want to help build your team, even if it's only teaching the young guys and not being a starter.

Best of luck to him though hope we play the pats in the playoffs
