Aside from the budget what else do you like? Do you need a large car to carry the family? Do want a fast car to go racing? Do you need 4 wheel drive?

There are so many things that need to be answered.

So please tell us what you are planning on doing with this car, what you do with your current car, what is required of the next car, what do you like, what you don't like, etc.

Also where do you live? The US, Russia, etc. And is the 11k budget USD or something else?

11k is a really good budget for a car. In what state do you live in? Car value seems to vary from state to state, using Craigslist from your own state is a great way to start.

Make sure to be paying attention to Kelly Blue Book when searching for a car, there are people who will try to sell their car ridiculously high, even though it isn't worth that. Obviously, KBB isn't the #1 source to search a car's value but it's a good research source and you'll search the car you may want and get a clue on pricing.

Make sure to ask for a CarFax report about the car; people will say that the car has a clean title when that can be a lie and the title had been rebuilt. A rebuilt title means that the car was destroyed (considered a totalled out car by the insurance) and the car was rebuilt.

What type of car would you prefer? Coupe? Sedan? SUV? What year would you like the car to be? 2006+?

Volkswagen Jettas are great all around cars. Luxury, sporty, good on gas! They have plenty of options and you can get them for good deals. Also the newer Honda civics are great cars. Great on gas and super cheap parts of anything breaks.

You could get a really clean Toyota Camry or Honda Civic for $8k depending on the area. You should at least start there if you're looking for something reliable. If you want something cool, I guess you could look at something like a fifth gen BMW 3-Series.

Honda Accord Its very comfortable and the mpg is not so bad. I prefer sedans but enjoy an get an EX model so that you dont deal with a basic car.

If it's just something to take you to school and you don't want to modify it or anything of the sort, get a Honda Civic, as other users have said.

If you're wanting something a bit more 'elegant' looking, I'd consider a Honda Accord sedan, with 11k, you'd probably be able to get a model that has few years since production (possibly 2007+) and maybe low miles (depending on the use it gets, which is usually a daily driver).

I'd say a Lexus, a biased opinion, but they're nice looking cars. But, the problem is that when it comes down to maintenance, Lexus is expensive and seeing as how you're still in school (I'm guessing it's not college?), you wouldn't be able to maintain it once you ran out of the money you were able to keep out of the 11k.

Another thing, if you don't have a job to maintain the car, make sure to save some of that 11k you've got. Being able to maintain a car is super important, doing maintenance on it when its due will keep a car running for years to come. That's just my advice.
