Members calling other members idiots due to having their own opinion is why most of these 'controversial' topics get closed down. Can't you all have a civilized discussion without having to call each other idiots or morons?
Anywho, I believe the Earth is not flat and it is not a circle, it is a sphere. Long before Colombus sailed the ocean, Aristoteles and many other ancient Greek scholars suggested that the Earth was round. They based their observations on many factors, such as the fact that departing ships would not only appear smaller as they sailed away but they seemed to 'sink into the horizon' as well. Also, Isaac Newton first proposed that Earth was not a perfectly round; instead, he suggested that it was an 'oblate spheroid': a sphere that is squashed at its poles and swollen at the equator. He was actually correct and, because of this bulge, the distance from Earth's center to sea level is roughly 21 kilometers (13 miles) greater at the equator than at the poles.
That map doesn't represent a flat Earth. That is basically the rotating globe split in half and made flat, so that it is easier for an observer to read the different locations around Earth, without having to spin the rotating globe to find something.
The problem with some of the pictures from outer space is that they take the pictures from one side of the Earth, making it look like a 'flat' landscape. But that's only because they don't take videos going AROUND Earth, probably because their fuel doesn't give them the chance to. I'm sure that one day, if society even advances that much, they'll be able to take a whole video of the Earth and put this discussion to an end.
Whether it is flat, round, square or whatever shape people want to name it, it's the Earth we live on. The shape has no effect on how human beings are living their lives; that's why I consider the discussion slightly 'pointless' but I don't find any of the different perspectives pointless or idiotic, just wanted to make sure that's understood.

But so does this.

AnthonyUK wrote Nope. It's round unless the photos taken at space of Earth are fake.

What a pointless topic.
The whole point of a topic is to engage in conversation and get other members view on the topic and get there opinion, as you can see it has been a success with 40 replies already.

I merely expressed my opinion. Just something I thought was common sense in all honesty.
The amount of replies I'd say simply comes from your popularity on here. Maybe not? Who knows. But also, just an opinion.
I ain't spreadin' hate.

Idk. I think that if it was flat then we wouldn't have certain things happen in certain places. Like an earthquake, if we were flat and sitting on a table and the table accidentally got bumped. The ENTIRE world would shake. Instead. We have the plates moving and having things happen in tiny areas. We also wouldn't have photos of deep space and crap

Stuart Clark: It's so clearly obvious that the world isn't flat. We see when ships leave the harbour you can see as they gradually disappear below the horizon. You can see if you go up on top of a tall tower or a hill and you see more over the horizon.
All our physics is constructed now, the physics of orbits of things going around the earth is all constructed with this three dimensional world. And the pictures from space show our world as a globe and yet somehow there are some people that still seem to believe the earth is flat.
So as human beings we love stories because stories make sense of our lives, of our world, they endow it with meaning and they can be understandable. Science is a way of what we hope is a true story something that is demonstrably true through experiment.
But as we see throughout the ages of the day can be overturned as we turn to a more precise understanding of the universe around us.
And generally speaking those become more complicated. So there is a tendency for people to reject that reality, that science of the day, on comfortable myths. Things that make them feel at home things that make them much happier that they know what's going on.
Maybe this obsession with the flat earth is one of those. Or maybe they're just contrarian. I don't know, it's one of those things that I find so difficult to get my head around. I really do.
My own pet theory is that they're doing it for comic effect.
Imagine for a moment that the earth was flat. Well, how much thickness does it then have? These are the kind of questions that you have to ask.
So you have an edge. Well, would things fall of the edge? How do you generate gravity to make the things fall? What is it that is actually causing the gravity to make things fall off the end? A flat surface is fairly unstable, the other forces it would be flexible and move around.
It's hard to even begin what a flat earth would actually be like because it's just so impossible.

If the world was flat then we would not be able to jump think of gravity as a surreal wind if the world was not round the earth would not be aerodynamic. If the earth was flat gravity would crush us and everything else on this planet. Its round lol

This is literally the stupidest conspiracy, grow up.
The Earth is an oval / circle like object. If the earth was flat, how would we have night and day, how would the other side of the planet have different timing than us.Where would gravity be if the Earth was flat, or even, where would the core of our earth that keeps it rotating and giving Earth a gravitation pull. And, wouldn't we have reached the edge of the Earth if it was flat. Although there could be a planet that's flat, ours is not. Leave it at that.
