Now is a great time to get into wow, they have changed the levelling to make it more engaging and preparing for the change to the new expansions. If you want a good wow levelling experience I would say you should definitely play it!

Personally, I got bored after reaching level 60ish. It's rinse and repeat imo, snoozeville and certainly not worth a 9.99 a month

You should wait for the new expact, if you've not played it before then I'd recommend it, but for people who've played and quit, Legion isn't worth it unless you like PvE aspect of the game, I'm personally waiting for Vanilla before I play again > although I may play the new xpact.

I haven't ever been a fan of WoW, but I have friends that play it pretty regularly. As far as I know the player base is as strong as ever so I don't think that is an issue in your case of starting the game late.
