It's stupid and not something to joke about, but I find it funny how scared some people get over threats. Today my school got a threat at about 7:20AM (school starts at like 8:05) so by 7:30 half the PD was in my school setting up checkpoints. I ended up arriving at 7:50-ish and right when I walked in there was a detective, two other cops, and some school staff. They tried to take my damn cookies man! Like an hour later they figured out the tweet was sent from Arizona. Plot twist, it was only the abbreviation of the school name so every other school abbreviated "SHS" had their schools backpack searched. Good times. So a lot of people went home because they were, "Scared for their life's." Threats don't really bother me as I'm always prepared. But others, I guess they look at it differently. What do you guys think about all these school shootings and all this drama going around?

Hell, I'm ready to get the **** outta there or start throwing some punches. I'm always finding my self getting into beef with people I don't even know so I'm always watching my back.

You're never prepared.

The bravest man in the world wouldn't be prepared cause it's so unexpected.

you make it sound like people being worried for their life is a bad thing.

It's not even that. It happens so often it's not looked at by most as an actual reason to be scared. This is the 4th threat this year alone. They should really stop trying so hard to prepare us for a school shooting, but rather preventing a school shooting. You see where I'm coming from?

A younger version of me would have said you sound naive and overconfident. Something like, "you can't know how you're going to react until you are in that situation."
But you have the right mindset I think. People need to start thinking about what they would do in a situation like that, and people need to be ready to fight, regardless of what might happen to them.

If someone stands up on an airplane with a boxcutter and tells everyone to stay calm, that person will either be dead, unconscious, or heavily restrained within 20 seconds. People know now that if someone does that, even if it's more than one person - especially if it's more than one person - there is no other option than a total shutdown of that person's ability to remain a threat, regardless of the threat they currently pose.

A classroom shouldn't be viewed any differently by people than an airplane.

If you can scramble out of a window then go for it - but if you're at the front, by the door, and someone walks in with a loaded weapon, you have no choice but to fight for your life and the lives of everyone sat behind you - not run for it and hope that they are fast enough to do the same.
In all likelihood you won't be.

Think of how many mass shootings could have been prevented if the first ten people to see the shooter simply charged at them?
That kind of selflessness and courage is not easily found, but it is invaluable.

Whenever these discussions come up I always think about Aitazaz Hassan Bangash, a 14 year old from Pakistan who, when a suicide bomber tried to get into his school, didn't run away.
He tackled the bomber to the ground and was killed in the process, but he saved the lives of untold numbers of people.

You might not be prepared or you might be, either way you seem to have the right mindset and I won't fault you for that.
