I found a 12 valve cummins for 2k. I have about 2k to buy a tow rig and I would rather have a gas truck since I can work on them easier. But a 12 valve is my dream truck. It's got 300K miles and needs a new upper control arm and a new tire, aswell as a trans cooler It also has some accident damage. My mom's boyfriend told me not to buy it since If something happens internally he won't help me since he doesn't screw around with diesel but I am pretty mechanically inclined. Anyone else want to chime in?

Diesels are rough to work on dude. Especially something with that much work needed. Trans cooler repairs can go south fast. Plus an absolute shit ton of miles. But that's what they're good for.

I would personally pass on this but if you want a good project truck. Go for it dude.

If you want a good project truck then I say go for it. You might get another 200,000 miles on it but you don't know how its been treated on the first 300,000 miles. What happened with the stock trans cooler?

Was in an accident and damaged I believe, but it might have just broke. I looked at it and it would need a new driver fender and bumper as the door scrapes the fender. There is no rust at all on the undercarriage of the truck. In total it would need A control arm, tire, fender, bumper so far. I wasn't able to get it started as the battery was dead but I was able to get the mileage which was 267K not 300K.

if your not to worried about high miles and you want to take on the project then just make sure the frame ain't bent. If it looks bent in any way then run.

Edit: Have decided not to buy it as it would cost 3k to fix this truck and I don't have that capital currently.

Good choice!

The 12v are probably the easiest to work on but the parts for any diesel are expensive. If you budget is low I would definitely recomend a gas truck. They are cheaper in every way from repairs to fuel to insuring and registering.

The thing about diesels is you get mad respect because it's a diesel, it sounds and smells good, but for 99% of what we do we could use a gas truck. I own a diesel and even though I love it, financially I regret buying this truck.

Nah i didn't buy it. He wanted too much after I looked through my videos I saw more damage I missed out on. I'm not sure if I would trust pulling a enclosed trailer with a car on it and a bunch of tools. A gas truck could probably do it I just don't see it not having a really hard time doing it.

Yeah, I definitely would not buy that truck, looks like too many problems. The thing with the cheap diesels is that the purchace price is your first big bill, then you have to repair it lol.
