How much did everyone's first year of car insurance? Mainly concerned about people in the U.K.
I'm a first-year driver, 17 years old and my first car is a 04 Vauxhall Corsa Sxi 1.4l
The cheapest insurance I can find for myself was quoted at £4,400 or with a driver listed as a named driver with 20 years experience, the lowest price is £2,500.
Does anyone have an idea why it is quoted to be so expensive?

Get a black box, put your miles as low as it can go (ruffly 5k), say your cars locked in a garage overnight, says its just for pleasure and not for work/college (full time or part time) and if its still not cheaper try third party or go under your mas name.

Depends on where you live too. For example, if you live in a "high risk" area, you're insurance will be higher than those in a "low risk" area. These differences can be huge.
But defo play around with the settings when you're comparing. For example, lower mileage, your occupation ect. Also, I found that looking on more than 1 site will help too. There was a difference of about £400 when I was looking to renew with the exact same policy details.
Good luck!

The £2,500 quote was with a black box, and parking on a driveway, occupation as a student and only 6k miles :/

I honestly have no idea why mine is so expensive, all my friends have had theirs half the price of mine. Feel like I've been scammed.

I can't really add much to the convo since I don't live in the UK but damn do you guys get screwed on insurance. 4400 pounds for an 04 corsa. Thats more than the car costs isn't it? I have an 04 corsa (different badge though for australia, badged as a holden) which is 1.8L and the insurance is like $300 a year.

Until you mess up and cause an accident (As many first time drivers do, it's not an uncommon thing) and end up sued out of everything and your first born
Seeing Insurance rates in the UK make me so glad that we can insure cars, with engines bigger than some of the cars over there, in the US for less than $150 a month
