I think this is the least people could do is give back to the Military that fought for the Country. Risking everything everyday and people get pissed off because you guys get a Discount. Like wtf tbh... without the military we wouldn't be where we are right now. My whole family was in the Military so thanks for your service!

What's the criteria for it?
If the criteria is that the job is dangerous and/or saves peoples lives then lots of other jobs should also receive discounts.

Do police officers get a discount?

The coastguard? Mountain rescue? Correctional officers? Carpenters? Woodcutters?

If 'the least we can do is say thank you' is the rationale then basically everyone who does a dangerous job or does a job which involves saving lives should be eligible for a discount.

Being in the military isn't the most dangerous occupation any more and I think people should stop acting like it is.

Then again, I'm from the UK and we don't have as much over the top respect for the military as the US does.

I agree on some stuff those people should get a type of discount. I know police officers do sometimes. As well as coast guards. Hell I repo for a living and get a gun pulled on me atleast twice a week so I'm risking my life but I don't get any discounts but I'm not complaining. I guess it's just the way you look at things. From a family that has been in the Military I appreciate it. If I wasn't from a family like that I may think different I'm not sure.

I don't think that being in the military makes a person automatically brave or a patriot, many join for college money or because they simply have no choice.

With that in mind, I don't think there should be a discount because of a certain job role. Especially with all the military imposters who pretend they've served in the military etc.

In the UK, we have student discounts for basically everything and although I take them, I wouldn't be annoyed if they weren't offered.

At the end of the day, it's the companies choice if they want to discount military members and I have no problem if they want to but I don't think it should be expected or mandatory.

Military members deserve a discount, law enforcement officers do not.

Honestly I couldn't give less of a poop who get's a discount but if you're petty enough to care about a 20% discount then you obviously have a boring ass life. If you're so jealous of military discounts then join the military...

I don't expect any of you to understand the purpose of a Military discount, but risking ones' life isn't the only thing we deal with whilst serving. Many face hardships, it's just a natural thing of life, but try placing that upon being responsible for your own Aircraft at 18 years old, and the two lives of which seat in it with the additional weight of all the lives depending on close air support when they're TIC.

I never utilized Military discounts part from the times when I truly needed every penny I had, for one is responsible for uniform upkeep, their way home on holidays, and sustenance needed to maintain a liveable life. It can be a lot on personnel, especially the lower enlisted of which hardly make much of anything for what we do - so yes, I believe Military personnel deserves a Military discount, our responsibilities go above and beyond of that of a civilian.

I often recall being so emotionally detached whilst serving, any enjoyment I did have was those few occasions I got with family, or on the off chance that I had enough money to purchase something I'd been wanting, whilst sure it's all situational - many deal with the same responsibilities amongst their job and every day life, as a civilian one can typically clock out at the end of the day and go home, whilst serving, you're always on duty - hence why we're paid on a 24/7 basis. One may deal with additional duties, guarding ammunition, unit assets, CQ, suicide watch, Forward Armament and Refueling Point duties, etc.

My take on it is that I dont have a problem with it. Obviously a topic like this will come down to whether or not you support war or not. Someone, who supports/has no issue with it, will see no problem with military discounts, but someone who has a problem with war and doesnt support it will definitely have a problem with it.

Nothing wrong with it in my eyes, just a way of giving back to those who decide to serve our country.
