You don't have to buy gold, you could always get gifted.
Posting frequently on the forums, talking to people in the shoutbox, and entering gold giveaways will increase your chances of being gifted.

you could always enter gift raffles that happens every other week

Now Click account or this Account.html

Click the settings cog [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Once the page opens click the Gold membership extras tab

You'll see an option saying change username, set that to yes

I don't have the option because I used my name change this month

A text box will appear and then enter your desired name
