I have a MacBook Pro late 2013, obviously it's a bit dated, I recently tried to run fortnite on there and as expected the graphics card is struggleing, I've done abit if digging online and haven't really found a straight answer, can someone please tell me if there is a way the graphics card can be updated without having to spend lots of money on an external graphics card.

Might be completely wrong but I swear you can't actually remove and add new parts to apple pc products such as iMacs and Laptops?

I'm sure someone on here can clean that up

Found this:

'You can't upgrade a MacBook's GPU. However, you can buy a full size graphics card and an external GPU dock like the Razer core and enhance your graphics by connecting that to your MacBook'

You could use an eGPU like mentioned above. At that point though you might as well just build a gaming PC. Problem is, eGPUs are not cheap. When all said in done you would have to spend about another $500.

Also, the way games are programmed on Mac makes them less efficient than Windows. So even after you buy an eGPU it won't run as smoothly as a windows PC.

The easiest way and cheapest way would be getting GeForce NOW. I use it for my 2017 MacBook pro touchbar and it works flawlessly. You will need pretty good wifi though. A beta code will cost 20-25 dollars.

The easiest way to do it would be to buy an eGPU like others have already said, but since that isn't what you want I will go a little further and explain where others didn't.

The problem with upgrading your MacBook Pro 2013 graphics is that it doesn't have a discrete graphics card meaning that it uses integrated graphics which is on your CPU in your MacBook Pro. What this means is that since Apple solders the CPU to the motherboard that it is technically possible to remove the solder and upgrade it with another CPU that fits that socket, but that is going to be difficult to do, cost just as much as an eGPU, and be harder to do with a high risk of messing things up.

Another option is to sell your MacBook Pro and build yourself a computer if that is something you think you might be into. MacBooks generally hold their value pretty well so that is a possibility.
