Long story short, Asus G46VW didn't boot so I thought it might be the connector board (small pcb which monitor, keypad, keyboard, power button connects to) so I replaced it and still doesn't boot.

I want to see if it's the motherboard that's dead but not sure how to start it up without power button, i wonder if I can short something out on motherboard to try boot it?

The only thing that happens is when I connect power cable to laptop it shows little charging led that's the only response I get from something and even then that light sometimes doesn't work...?

Help?

Temporarily short the 2 pins where the power switch is connected. Tough one being a laptop.

When the laptop has power, try connecting your phone to the laptop and see if it charges. There are things you can do to test other things such as extracting the HDD, RAM etc.

Sounds a shitty issue.

There is no way to do it where the power switch is as it's attached to little pcb.

So my phone charges when I plug it in..? Does that mean the mobo is not dead?

What kind of tests can I do with that?

I've taken the HDD out and there is still no sign sadly, the HDD that was in it is running on my main desktop currently and it works flawlessly.

That's a good sign that your phone charges then when the laptop has power, however doesn't explain why it won't boot.

When turning the laptop do you get any notification that the laptop is trying to boot? For example can you hear the HDD spin, does the fan in the unit spin? Could be a range of things mate

Unfortunately no, I literally have that LED light saying it's being charged and usb in phone works that's everything I get back from the laptop. Both fans don't spin, HDD doesn't make a noise.

Sometimes I need to unplug power cable and replug to get that led light though

Motherboard has gone then by the sounds of it. If you can extract the mobo, check for any blown capicitors on the board such as the example below:

There are no capacitors but it all looks good anyway?
