Lately, looking on NewEgg and comparing some parts, it seems as though parting out a rig isn't necessary anymore unless I'm getting into the upwards of $1000-2000.

Am I right in assuming this? Most prebuilt 800 dollar rigs are coming with i5, gtx 1070, ssd and 1tb hd. And building this yourself only saves roughly, what $75? Unless you spend a year bargain hunting.

I just don't have a grand to spend on a rig and want to feel comfortable spending 700 or 800 bucks on something pre built.

I'd love to see that $800 pre-built with a GTX 1070 please.

Regardless, it depends entirely on the rest of the components. What i5? What SSD? What case and PSU is included? How much RAM? What motherboard?

It also depends on the seller. A lot of sellers use cheapish components to save prices etc. So, if you do go for a pre built, make sure you are fully aware of the model of each component. That's typically why pre builts are sometimes low price.

They're literally all over NewEgg. Most of the stuff is name brand, 8GB ram seems standard. It looked like that's where they cut corners was the ram and and processor. But still, save myself 2 or 3 hundred bucks and upgrade to decent ram later on? Would this be a horrible idea? These rigs run everything I want to run on ultra, and I get the fact building your own you know what you're buying and the quality of the product, but when these rigs are using almost *identical* parts to some people are building and selling for relatively the same price and come with a year warranty what exactly is there to lose from this situation?

Also they seem to cheap out on the SSD but I have my own Samsung SSD.

Can you show me even one of these? Cheapest pre-built I can find on Newegg with a GTX 1070 is this;

for $900, and it's a refurbished unit with no SSD, plus the case and PSU are trash.

A lot of them aren't using "almost *identical*" components though.

Some pre-builts might be worth it, but it's very rare, so again, until we know the specifics of what you're looking at, we can't really help you.

I'll be honest man you're kinda acting stuck up. I appreciate the help but I simply asked is it worth it. I didn't mean any rig in particular, just the ball park what I was going to spend. And I don't know how they aren't identical when they're literally the same name brand parts as any guy on here building rigs. I'm not a novice, I've helped with building rigs before just not for a few years and felt like the market had changed. So I know what I'm looking at for the most part. Just wanted to know if I was right in my assumption.

I'm gonna go ahead and get one in the 800 dollar range, and if anything goes wrong at least I'll have a warranty

Thanks for your help again.

How so? I simply asked to see this pre-built system for $800 that has an i5, SSD, HDD, and a GTX 1070, because if that exists, then no one should be building $800 systems. Or even $1000 systems, so if you could link me that system, that'd be great.

L33CH wrote I appreciate the help but I simply asked is it worth it. I didn't mean any rig in particular, just the ball park what I was going to spend.

I understand that. Again though, as I've said twice now, it depends entirely on the specific components being used. Some pre-builts in your price range might be worth it, others won't be. The majority aren't and I guarantee you'll have a tough time finding a reasonably priced pre-built without some serious corners being cut, other than that GTX 1070 system for $800 of course.

L33CH wrote And I don't know how they aren't identical when they're literally the same name brand parts as any guy on here building rigs.

Pre-builts often use OEM motherboards and PSUs which not only lack features, but are also significantly lower quality than even the cheapest consumer compoenents available. Pre-builts can also come with weird cases and even form factors, making future upgrades more difficult, or potentially impossible. Then they'll cheap out with RAM, storage, and SSD in terms of quality big time, and that's IF they include an SSD.

You said you were looking at Newegg? This is the only pre-built I can find for $800;

Open-box, no SSD, last gen quad core CPU. PSU and Mobo are definitely poor quality. Case isn't good, but it's re-usable and doesn't really restrict upgrades. "GTX 1060" but no specification that it's the 6GB variant, so I'd assume that's the 3GB GTX 1060, which is a completely different GPU. Not worth it at all, especially not if it's a 3GB 1060.

Or this for a little over $800?;

Much better CPU, definitely only a 3GB 1060, and still no SSD. Dell have used some really good quality PSUs in pre-built systems in the past, so honestly whether or not this specific pre-built is worth it depends entirely on the PSU quality. Even then, not really that worth it since you don't get an SSD and are stuck with a 3GB 1060. It's a totally custom case from Dell as well, so upgrades with this would be a nightmare.

Literally every other pre-built system on Newegg in the $600-$900 range is hot trash. Buy what you want though.

No link for that system? There's another guy looking for an $800ish system and if he's building himself, he'll be stuck with an RX 580 so if he could get a GTX 1070 instead, let us get that link for him so he can buy the pre-built instead?

Sure, I'm on mobile right now. Will edit this post with a link when a I get home. I can't remember if it was on NewEgg or the distributors website directly.
