Modern Combat 5: Blackout

Game Information
Release date: Jul 24, 2014
Publishers: Gameloft
Platforms: PC & Mobile
Genre: First-person shooter
Rated: M for Mature

Synopsis
Step onto the battlefield with the game that raised the bar for first-person shooters. Create a squad, add your friends and test your skills in dynamic multiplayer warfare against online rivals from around the world! Prefer to work alone? Then step into the thrilling solo campaign as you shoot your way through one dire situation after another...

Plot
You get a good insight on the story when the game first starts up and, it's important to pay attention because, I did not and had to read the plot on another website. The main character in Blackout is Caydan Phoenix (a minor character from Modern Combat 4). Some other characters who play a big part in the campaign include Sophie Daviau and Isaac Tukura. The campaign begins with a cutscene, in which Phoenix and Daviau discuss current events in Gilman HQ, Tokyo. One month previously the World Liberation Army had launched a surprise attack on Venice, Italy, and a week after that an attack on several Asian networks. Phoenix tries to convince Daviau that the attack on Venice was a cover-up for something greater, but Daviau does not believe him. The cutscene ends, and the game begins as a flashback, with Phoenix and Jonathan Taylor infiltrating Venice as part of a Gilman Security Special Forces Unit. -Edited text from Wikipedia

Story Mode
Having played the game on my PC I found it to run extremely smooth for a game that originated on a mobile device. When you first start out you're taken through a few missions, which prompt you with basic controls and tips on how to play the game. On the first mission I was already amazed on how well the enemy bodies flung around when hit with gun fire. Within the first hour of gameplay, I felt I was already a pro. The controls are easy and the missions are short and fun. You never get stuck in 30 minute missions, as some of the longer missions only last for about 5 minutes. You're given usually about 3 objectives, which mostly relate to killing/eliminating the enemy.

Multiplayer
The multiplayer in this game is similar to almost any call of duty first-person shooter type game. Which for most people is a good thing, the most surprising thing is being able to play something of this quality. Noting that this game originated and is still dominantly played on mobile devices. Multiplayer matches consist of about seven different maps, and different game modes including: Free for All, Team Death Match, Capture the Flag, VIP and, Zone Control. You're given a lot of options, being able to upgrade your weapons, and just about all their attachments. You are able to choose from different classes such as, Assault, Support, Heavy, or Sniper in which you level up each class separately. You're also able to unlock and customize your appearance with headgear, suits and all.

Graphics
As stated before, I think the graphics in this game are great, coming from a dominate mobile developer such as Gameloft. The reaction time and movement of your weapon is spot on. The game flows with ease but, reminds me of a cartoon at times being, that some objects are kind of blocky and somewhat pixelated. Whether you're playing on your PC and Mobile device I think you'll be impressed.

Final Thoughts
Overall, I don't see myself coming home just waiting to play this game but, it was a nice find and I think I can appreciate it when other games become somewhat bland. The biggest downfall in this game was the fact that it had energy bars, and no not the food. Energy bars as in playing a certain amount of games/missions before having to "refuel", which seems to be a big thing with Gameloft apps. Often it's said that the only reason these energy level things exist, is so you don't beat the entire game in one sitting. Or that it encourages you to actually purchase more energy to play for however much longer. In all, if you're on a PC or a mobile phone of some sort, I encourage you to give this first-person shooter a try.

Modern Combat 5 Blackout defiantly looks like a decent first-person shooter for sure, the online multiplayer looks kind of cool.

Great review man, although the game doesn't look too good. Even though it is similiar to CoD and even has multiplayer, I don't think i'd see myself playing much.
