Aegis Wing
Platform: Xbox Live Arcade
Genre: Scrolling shooter
Release Date: May 16, 2007
Developer: Carbonated Games, Microsoft
Publisher: Microsoft Game Studios
Synopsis
Aegis Wing is a 2007 scrolling shooter video game developed by Carbonated Games and three independent Microsoft interns for the Xbox Live Arcade. The game was released worldwide on May 16, 2007, available free to all Xbox Live members in North America.
Gameplay
Somewhat of a birds eye view game, Aegis Wing is based on you piloting a small ship flying through space defeating your enemy. In your ship you will be required to dodge bullets and mines and destroy enemies ships with your default weapon. You will be able to pick up power-ups upgrading your ship making it have bigger and better guns that will help defeat your enemy quicker. Not every power-up will be upgrades to your ship, some may be just health packs allowing you to be revived after being blown up. Aegis can also be played with 3 other players as you complete stages allowing quicker completions although each stage may get harder with more enemies and harder to kill. When competing in multiplayer mode, you will be able to attach your ship with your friends ships making a more vital ship with stronger weapons. Near the end and during stages, you will encounter bosses that have specific ways of destroying them or you'll just need to shoot at them to kill it. This game is also pointed based so the more ships you destroy the more points you'll receive.
Graphics
Since Aegis is an arcade game on the Xbox market, the graphics in this game won't be that impressive. You'll still see great textures in the ships and bullets on the battlefield but the best part is the background on each stage. Sometimes you'll see meteors or floating space shuttles and you may even think it's actually something you can crash but its just making the game feel more space like. Each power-up usage is also quite impressive with all the textures and animations on your ship when used. The game also runs smooth when in a multiplayer game or when there's 20 different ships on screen shooting at you. Like most games where you can die, you will have a hub that shows mostly everything such as your ships health, power-ups, etc and each piece of the hub seems like its actually a spaceship.
Controls
This game is a shooter game so you might think you'll be using the triggers a lot for shooting but this game is a little different, you actually rarely use your triggers. For your ships movement you'll be using your analog stick and then A for shooting. Then you have your power-up use which is your B. When attached to a friend or multiple friends, your controls change a little but mostly stay the same. When attached you won't me able to steer your ship but you will now be able to shoot in any direction you want. You can attach or detach to friends ships by just pressing the X button. Using these controls you are mostly liking only going to be using 2-3 fingers and not 5 like other games. If you are having troubles there is a full control option in the settings letting you know what they are.
Rating
Gameplay: 9/10
Graphics: 8/10

It's actually surprisingly fun to play. Brings back a lot of memories for me, When I was having my internet service provider changed over I had no internet for a week, I would sit and play for hours

This is for sure a fun one, even though it's an arcade game I've still enjoyed it quite a bit. I agree with pretty much everything on your review, the only thing is that I think the graphics make this game rate lower to a 7 or 8/10

This is actually a really fun game, I played it a lot when I used to smash the arcade games! Graphics aren't the best but shouldn't expect much from a game that old! great review mate
