So I am in honor guard until September (in the airforce) and we just had 3 airman die in a car crash and one of them is having his Active Duty Funeral down in key west so our honor guard unit got tasked for it. We are based out of Tampa. Anyways it's about a 8 hour drive for us so it would be considered a TDY, So today we were training a bit and I realized I forgot my dress shoes..... so I told my NCO because he was our backup and I asked if it was okay if I could go buy a pair of shoes from the naval base that is close to us or if I could wear his. He said nope you're off the team I'm taking your spot...... he's not even trying to help out and be a wingman. And I know it's my fault I take full responsibility for forgetting my shoes but him nor my MSGT aren't helping me out and now I am going to get paperwork (when you get in trouble), but I'm not worried about the paperwork. I've been training for this and now I don't get to give honors to the family because my NCO couldn't work with me and be a wingman. It's a privilege to do this and the person who is suppose to "guide" and help you out just wants you to get into trouble and blue falcon you (pretty much means to **** you over). I mean if there is a solution to the problem why would I not be able to fix it?? It just makes no sense. There was more than enough time for me to go buy the dress shoes and be back in time, the naval base is like 10 minuets from us......

Rant over. Just had to get this stuff off my mind.

I learned very quickly that doing the right thing and trying to be a good soldier is a lot different than doing the smart thing. You probably shouldn't have told him, and just gone and got new shoes.

When I was new to my unit, I found a few blanks in my kit after a training mission... I decided to be a good soldier and let my NCO know. Then I got smoked for hours. I should have just tossed them.

Something I learned incredibly quick in the Military is that not everyone is your friend, in fact, they are far and few. In that, I learned that many of these individuals are precisely that, they're self-enamored and out for themselves, which is exactly how they received their stripes.

Often you're going to run into these sort of individuals, especially as you progress through the ranks, it's unfortunate - but truly, the rank isn't how you determine if someone is a competent leader, in that; their mentality of leadership may differ entirely. We all know what outcome this situation should have had, but in my opinion, it seems as though he's utilizing this as a means to make himself appear astute and squared away; which shows a blatant lack of compassion, morality, and leadership.

Whilst it may not be much, some advice is all I can really give you and that is this; you have seen a prime example of bad leadership, now go about and be the exact opposite.
