I was wondering if a ssd would prevent lag spikes/smoother gameplay? My pc lags pretty hard in huge minecraft maps but runs everything 60fps at 1080p..

It does depend. You need to find the route cause of what's causing these FPS drops. An SSD will help if you are running out of VRAM on your GPU and it's saving itself as temp storage on your SSD.
Use [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] ' s logging tool to find out the cause. Set it to log when you open the game and when you get a lag spike, stop the logging and see what could be causing it. Ofc, if you have an average of 100% disk usage then you know an SSD might help you.

And I also installed optifine.
