You can pick up used 1080Ti's for under 500 squids now btw, might be a good shout, but I'd definitely wait for RTX benchmarks at least since they're less than 2 weeks away.

I wouldn't recommend an 8700k right now. 9th gen is supposedly really close(at least some of it) and that should be bringing 8 cores to the mainstream Intel platform. I'd either wait for 9th gen or just go with Ryzen tbh. R7 2700(X) is a solid CPU.

Nice case choice, I've always loved the EVOLV. Just an FYI, it's discounted so much right now because the EVOLV X is out on the 24th, pre-orders are available on Overclockers. Heckin expensive though.

Any reason for m.2 form factor SSD? I'd just get the 2.5" 860 EVO. The 500GB 2.5" 860 EVO was like £80 a couple of weeks ago, I'm pretty sure we'll see it down at a similar price again soon so I'd probably keep an eye on pricing and grab it when it's priced well. I think I might have to grab one myself if they come back down to £80 tbh but I've been waiting for RTX benchmarks lol.

A lot of benchmarks show intel beating out Ryzen 7 in a lot of games (I'm guessing that's down to the single core performance) and wouldn't really make a huuuuuge use out of the improvement on productivity that the ryzen cpus offer. I will hold out a bit for the next chipset to release I guess.

I had intented to get an nvme drive for the performance boost over sata drive. I thought I had selected an nvme drive but possibly not?

Also why not keen on the D15? I've been using Noctua NH12 for years now and it's always seemed pretty decent.

Accurate, but it's only going to be noticeable in certain situations, mostly high refresh rate. I just wouldn't feel confident investing in an 8700k right now with 9th gen so close.

Cheaper coolers like the Dark Rock Pro 4 and Cryorig R1 perform similarly but look much nicer.

If you just look at an image of the SSD, most of them say on the sticker "NVMe SSD" or "SATA M.2", other than the Intel one's I think. I'd just stick with Samsung anyway. If you're going with an NVMe SSD, spend the extra fiver for the 500GB 970 EVO. It's newer, faster, and has a better warranty than the 960 EVO. Though, the 860 EVO is a great SSD if you're not really going to be making proper use of the speeds with an NVMe SSD.

That's what I'm waiting for, but I think we'll see RTX 2070 benchmarks around the same time as 2080 and 2080Ti benchmarks(hopefully), so you'll be able to make a decision once you see benchmarks.

Even if we don't see 2070 benchmarks, we should be able to get a rough idea of 2070 performance from 2080 benchmarks.

I'll probably wait for the next Intel CPUs to drop as I currently have a 144Hz monitor anyway; might as well make use of the higher fps.

Definitely will buy the 970 EVO instead as that sounds stupid not to buy. With the original question, I was unsure whether nvme drives came with a certain spec, i.e. like how cpu's have a certain socket. Never had an M.2 drive so it's all been a bit confusing lol.

I'm hopeful for the benchmarks. If they aren't that good, I'll look into a 1080Ti I guess.
