If I were to buy let's say xbox/ps gift cards off the American amazon, can they be activated in the uk?

Usually, if you buy another regions currency, you'll have to switch your region on your Xbox / Playstation to activate the code on your account to have access to the money.

( Only aware it works for Xbox, Unkown if this works for Playstation )

But yes, it's possible.
