Hello all this is my first post. I am looking to build up a gaming PC and am curious as to whether this is easier/harder/no different than it used to be back in the day.
I haven't worked in IT for nearly twenty years now. I used to build systems for friends/family and for the nostalgics amongst us the last system I did for myself was a Pentium 2 333Mhz 64MB ram 4.3GB HDD windows 98, AGP graphics card I cant remember name of...., so things have certainly moved on a bit!
I'm not a big gamer myself but now I have children they are asking for a gaming PC and I am keen to do my own as both a personal interest project and also to maybe save some money.
Should I manage Ok or have things moved on so much now that PC architecture will seem as baffling to me now as it did when I first started? What if any are the major changes that i need to be aware of before taking the plunge?
Thanks for reading and any advice greatly appreciated

I would like to think you should be capable even if you haven't built a PC in years.
It's all the same kind of stuff, just better performing nowadays. You still need to put the CPU in the CPU slot, plug in all your power supply cables, etc.

If you want help with the parts to pick out, either reply to this post or make a new thread with the following information:

What is your budget and currency? (Pound sign does not work normally, use GBP abbreviation)
Do you need a monitor?
Do you need a keyboard?
Do you need a mouse?
Do you need an operating system?
What will you use the PC for?
