CooS wrote microsft have recently added a 3 year extention to any 360 no matter what the age so just ring them up and they fix it you for free in around 2 weeks. I just did it and got a brand new xbox 360 back 8) It covers the 3 red lights and the E74 i believe.....
Uk number: 0800 587 1102
Hope this helped you out.....
yea i wish i lived in the uk =] i was reading about the extension on the warranties but whenever i go to the xbox.com/support or whatever i try requesting a repair and whenever i write down the serial number it says that my warranty expired and that for error 74 its only the 3 year warranty.. which.. is dumb cuz like i said i bought my 360 summer of 08 and its 2010 it hasnt even been 3 years i just dont know why my serial is saying that its been more than 3 years

CooS wrote yeh...... RROD sucks :!:
i dont no why microsoft just fix all the console errors by increasing the heatsinks like on the elite and putting better 12v fans in....lol
It sucks for the gamers and for microsft because they have thousands to replace a week it must cost alot of money...
Edit: the E74 is due to the GPU overheating and the RROD is the CPU and the GPU overheating..
oh yea its over 100 usd for the repair which is dumb cuz you can easily go to gamestop or ebgames and get a used one for 50 dollars more.. yea the RROD is 3 lights mine was only the 4th player light they extended the warranty on the RROD not on the e74

all i can say is fix it your self i know you dont want to open the 360 but that the only and cheapest way i can think of....
If so go on ebay and buy a X-CLAMP KIT and follow tut onyoutube..
I have fixed around 10 xboxs with different errors and was all a success with the X-CLAMP
Good look hope you get it fixed

They are going to tell you "to bad, suck it up. You didn't pay for the extended warranty and that the default warranty is only for one year, it's been 1.5 years."
Hope you can get it fixed, but I doubt it.
Good Luck on your Microsoft adventures.
