if it's on your server use the packet analyzer in nettools
it may last a few hours to a few weeks depends. and if its persistent consider purchasing DDOS protection (not cheap) that will redirect the data packets elsewhere and keep your site from being affected.

I +REPPED you because you helped, although I do not know properly what you mean.
is your website hosted on your own server or someone elses? And if it's someone you pay to host on contact them they'd probably be happy to help you especially if you were to consider any legal routes if the problem persists.
And the Nettool suggestion would allow you to capture the IP address of each data packet incoming to your server
