The Purpose of a Moderator

Written by: -Yahoo

Please read:

Before you flame me, maybe you should read and consider what I am writing about.
Read each part of this informative thread. You need to understand many things to fully understand this.
This entire informative thread is based off of my understanding of what I have learned here at TTG about a moderator. I have observed intently and I am writing this to teach those who do not understand what the moderating title means.

Definitions you should understand -

Hierarchy
Any systems of persons or things ranked on above another.

Source:

Hierarchy | Define Hierarchy at Dictionary.com

Explanation: TTG has a hierarchy based rank system according to this definition. You should have a clear understanding of what a hierarchy is and how it works. TTG starts at the bottom with regular members. Then, after donating, you rise to become a premium member. After hard work and a display of intelligence and the want to enforce the rules, you rise to become a sectional moderator. of course there is the news team and vBookie but that is a different path then the regular staff takes. After that you can take the path to become a moderator and further rise through the ranks. This should be obvious by now.
Moderator
A person or thing that moderates
.

to Moderate
to act as a moderator; preside.
or to preside over and regulate.

Source:

Moderate | Define Moderate at Dictionary.com

Explanation: This should be straightforward enough. A moderator is one who presides and regulates. The reason we have moderators on TTG is to regulate (obviously). Their job is also to watch over the members of TTG, though this power increases as you go up the hierarchy.

Along with that, a moderator closes, moves, and cleans threads based on what is wrong with them. If your thread is pointless in the moderator's eyes or posted before, naturally it will be closed. A moderator also will clean a thread based off of the off topic posts and amount of flaming in it.

To summarize: A moderator is given the power to regulate what people post and do on the forums. They have the power to take action based upon the severity of one's action. Infractions exist on NGU to provide a higher level of punishment that ranges from an extreme warning to a permanent ban from TheTechGame.

If moderators were not in place on NGU and only Outsider ran his site alone, most likely uncontrolled posting and inappropriate behavior would ensue. This is because Outsider cannot be every where on his forum at once. Even with 33 other staff members (not including the news team and vBookie Moderators), NGU isn't completely regulated. That is why there is a report function. The staff's job can be made easier by a regular member using this function. Instead of searching for threads to be closed...the link to that thread is there for them. This sppeds of their job greatly and allows for better regulation.

How to deal with Corrupt/Unfair Staff Members

What classifies as corruption

Note:
:

This is a list of viable reasons to PM TTG DaleUk or another administrator about a problem with a member of staff. There are many other reasons then what is included in this list. Do NOT PM an administrator for something that is in clear violation of the rules. I do not endorse that.

Closing threads because YOU posted them.
This usually stems from a problem between you and the moderator who closed your thread. Remember that it is their job to close threads if they are unnecessary in the moderator's eyes. If it was posted before or it is a pointless thread in the eyes of a moderator, then it is NOT corruption.
Infracting you for a reason not against the rules

If you are infracted with a reason not against the rules then you have the right to dispute that infraction. Sometimes it isn't corruption though. Sometimes moderators can make a mistake and all you have to do is provide the proper reason and proof to dispute that infraction. This must be done in a calm manner.
Verbally Abusing You

This is the use of a moderator's title to verbally abuse you. If a moderator uses fowl language with you even if you have done something wrong then it is NOT ok.

Things that classify as verbal abuse:
1.Sexism
2.Racism
3.Fowl language used multiple times in a deliberate manner to offend

Avoid confrontations with moderators. Just take it to the ones above them in the hierarchy. Nothing good will come out of a confrontation with a member of staff. It can result in an infraction for you.

Did you write this to make staff think your eligible for staff? Not flaming, just asking.

Kind of agreed.

We already know the definition of what Moderator means...

Thanks for the dictionary heads up though.
