I think this question should be a sticky, that's how many people ask it. I'll tell you what I told them, sure Astros are nice but they only have 1 speaker in each headphone, the mixer makes it 5.1 surround sound in games and 7.1 during movies / anything else capable of 7.1. Also, they are very bulky and you have that annoying cord.. now, is this worth $250.00+tax? In my opinion, no. If you want a really nice, expensive, headset; I recommend the Turtle Beach X41, and with the spare money from NOT buying the Astros, you can get Black Ops / Brotherhood (which are both awesome games.) The Turtle Beaches use radio signals, which can be a problem if you live in a hotel where there are 10-20 WiFi signals in reach (but it just causes an occasional, low pitched pop every hour.) Besides that, they are very light.. so you're capable of wearing them for hours on end.. unlike the bulky Astros that will clamp your head and cause your neck to hurt because they weigh so much. Beyond that, the Turtle Beaches have 7 speakers in each headphone, giving you more precision in sound. Even more, it comes with a nice, sturdy, stand. Personally, I have the Astro Mixer with the Turtle Beaches X41; I basically have Astros with x12 speakers (+6 in each headphone), wireless capability, bass boost, and stereo extender (which is the best! it widens the range of sound - the farther away they are: the louder that sound is, you can hear people across Rundown on MW2 or Nuketown on Black Ops.) Hope I impacted your decision on what to get.. and all the rumors about the battery life not lasting long, they last about 24 hours of consecutive gameplay with all effects turned on (bass boost, stereo expander, etc.), which is REALLY good and it's not a problem at all with rechargeable batteries. Hope you choose your Turtle Beaches.
