Okay, I've seen many people tell others the wrong information or are just confused about how content works.

First of all, any bit of content (be that a map pack, arcade game, or anything you can purchase) has two licenses bound to it. One applies to the account the content was purchased on, and the other to the Xbox (NOTE: it is NOT the hard drive; it is the Xbox as a whole).

Now, to actually use the content you must be in possession of at least one of the licenses. This in turn gives a couple different options. You can play on the Xbox the content was purchased on, and ANY account on the Xbox will be able to use it. So this means that if you buy a map pack on account A, account B can play it as long as both accounts are on that Xbox that the purchase took place on. Also, you can play the content on ANY Xbox, as long as you are logged into Xbox Live with the account you purchased it on. However, if you are not on the original Xbox of purchase, no other account can use the content without purchase.

Here's a strategy on how to split content with a friend while only purchasing it once:

ohChaos wrote For example, you want to buy a map pack and your friend wants the same one, you could use YOUR account to buy it on HIS xbox, and then recover your account back to your xbox and redownload it, thus both of you now have the map pack or other DLC. Saves a lot of cash as you and your friends in real life can split costs instead of buying the same thing,

Also, if you've had many different Xboxs that you've purchased content on and you want all the licenses moved to the Xbox you now currently use, you can use the DRM transfer tool found [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] . Be aware that this tool can only be used once every 12 months.

I hope I've cleared up how content works. Any questions?

Sure, I'll add it. I'll also add how the DRM tool works on the Xbox website.

Thanks for the heads up on that.

I will be doing that for the Black Ops DLC.
