Ive noticed that the kill/death-ratio is still considered an important factor in determining skill in the online community. Ive said it before: I think the kill/death-ratio (or KDR) is overrated. But that doesnt mean that it says nothing; surely, in every gamemode, most good players will have a positive KDR (or more kills than deaths). In modes like Team Deathmatch it matters even more. In this guide I will give you some tips and tactics for improving your KDR, without sacrificing teamplay and fun.
Introduction
Alright, Ill tell you straightaway: the tips I will give are by no means a guaranteed way to get a higher KDR. The main reason being that I dont know how you play! After all, playing styles differ and therefore the things you need to work on will differ as well. But theres a few things you could certainly try and it might very well work for you. If it doesnt, simply try something else. Here we go.
1. Play more careful
It might be so temping, to just run straight into the enemy lines and empty your magazine, but more often than not its a pretty bad tactic. But step it down a little, and use your head! Think tactical and dont just run towards the enemies. If theyre any good, most of the time youll be screwed.
2. Play more aggressive
Its a contradiction, right? But if you find yourself in the same spot or playing pretty defensive, try and get a little more aggressive.
3. Mix it up
Mix up your playing style. Dont let your class dictate your playing style, just make it work! Be as unpredictable as you can be. Dont use the same route over and over. Dont use the same trick twice in a row.
4. Use your surroundings
Well, naturally, use cover wisely! Use every possible cover you can find. You dont have to go and sit behind the cover for 10 seconds each time, but having cover near makes for a quick getaway from enemy fire. Its also increases the odds of you getting to the enemies unseen.
5. Play dirty
Oh please, dont go knife-monkey on their ass, but you might want to consider techniques like dropshotting (going prone whilst shooting) and playing dead. Well, its not really dirty but some people may think that. I think it just gives you a very slight advantage by utilizing the games mechanics in a smart way.
