Oh also, I was curious, is it possible to pay purely for unlocks? I have a friend who has 10th but doesn't have all challenges and what not.

No. Having too many specific slots will not be easy to manage.
And if you just want unlocks, you can still access all of the other menu options lol..

So no, he has to pay for a Standard Slot.
