Hello fellow TTGers, I'm writing this guide to increase your further understanding of a sniper and will go more indepth into a sniper and how to increase your sniping apparatus.
I write this guide as I have been playing a sniper for roughly 8-9 years, I spent most of my time playing battlefield 2 as a Officer of Angle's scopes, We had a population of around 100+ snipers and hosted a sniper server. But battlefield aside I have can cover the games I have played for hours, Before anyone asks I have written this guide myself and take full copyright if someone steals it.
Alright lets make a table of contents!
-Definition and history
--Debunkin'
-What is a sniper?
-Why should I play a sniper?
-How to play a sniper
-Conclusion
Definition and history
Ok, As a major part of todays date snipers can be called one of IF not the biggest gaming icon for shooters, The majority of players Play or ARE snipers and so many games feature snipers that I cannot even count them, But what you may not know is that a "sniper" is in more games the the eyes can meet, Let's make a list of games I can think of that include a "sniper" but you don't even realise!
-World of Warcraft
-Fable
-Maplestory
-Mabinogi
-Raganarok
-LOTRO
-Deadrising 2
-Left 4 dead
-Oblivion
-Sports
-Warcraft 1,2&3
-Starcraft 1&2
-Half-life 1&2
-And lots...Lots more
Now that we notice that snipers are everywhere you might be asking WHAT is a sniper?
Well I'll give you the wiki description of one then I'll tell you what one is from my Point of view...
Wiki
My version of a sniper?
A sniper is a LRAK (Long range A$$ kicker) Like the wiki suggested a sniper is marksman, They tend to hide and take out people from dizzying distances. Despite popular belief a sniper may take hours if not days to line up a shot, There is NO Quickscoping Trick-scoping!! Sniping requires patients, accuracy, tactical understanding, and most of all Not being a idiot; That's just my two cents.
HISTORY
I don't study snipers so I'm just going to give you the wiki history of a sniper.
Debunkin'
Alright, So a lot of people love to make up crap about snipers well I'm going to put popular myths to rest right here!
-Sniping takes skill!!!
Well, To a degree skill IS a factor. But sniping really has a lot of factors which each play a big part (See above for all factors)
-You can No-scope in real life!
Go kill yourself No, No ,NoNONONONONO!
-In Cod(enter digit here) Sniping is SOOO realistic!
That's swell to know, But it's most likely not, Sure it's fun to do all these crazy snipes but that are far from reality...
-Ok, so I love sniping in video games! I'm going to go sign up in the sniper in the army!
Well here is a quick definiton of the training
Unless that appeals to you, Go back to sniping in video games...
What is a sniper?
This was all stated above, I'm not going to write this part for now. Unless someone wants...
How to play a sniper?
So you want to play a sniper? Well a LOT of people would argue WHAT a sniper is, But the true meaning of a sniper IS a oppertunist; a person who adapts his actions, responses, etc., to take advantage of opportunities, circumstances, etc. One who takes advantage of any opportunity to achieve an end, often with no regard for principles or consequences.
As a sniper you take want to take risks, A quote I love to say as a sniper is "Don't you want to take a leap of faith? Or become an old man, filled with regret, waiting to die alone!" -Saito,Inception
The reason that quote fits perfectly as a sniper is because you take any option you can such as... Should I kill the guy planting the charge? Or save my teammates by killing that squad over there?
As a sniper you NEED to be able to make FAST choices and calculate the outcome faster then a keystroke/mouseclick/trigger pull, if not you could of just lost the game for other people.
A SNIPER is a support class like a rogue in world of warcraft, A support class IS needed but should not have to many of, a calculation my clan made up was this.
To get the perfect number of snipers:
/= division
#of players / number of people playing a support class and + 1.
Should look like,
28/9+1= 4
Therefor 4 snipers in a game of 28.
How to play a sniper
Well there are two types of snipers that we used in battlefield 2.
A Ghost OP
and a Sniper
Ghost ops are people who go behind enemy lines and act as a spawn location aswell as assisting assaulting frienly forces.
A sniper is some one who stays back merely picking off forces from afar, each require huge amounts of skill.
A sniper WANTS to NOT be found you want to hide yourself opposite of the light, tend to stay in the dark.
Snipers need to make a perfect shot for two reasons, A miss shot could give away your position and let the enemy know they are getting attacked.
Snipers should NEVER engage in close combat! even if you have a pistol that is if you they find you hiding.
Snipers have one and one only best-friend... Verticality, if a sniper is above you that means he/she is not in your line of sight, and the higher you are the better view, but with great height comes with a harder shot and longer drops/bullet travel time.
And last but not least, Sniper don't want to travel in large groups 1-2 men is good but make sure that you have one spotter.
Snipers use you've got to your advantage... You might be asking why do I need Binoculars when I have a sniper scope? Well in most games Binoculars have a larger field of vison they can see farther and look badass...
And most of all REMEMBER TO TAKE ANY OPPORTUNITY THAT YOU SEE FIT!!!
Conclusion
I want to say a few things before I end this, I want to thank everyone who read this.
Massive thanks and R.I.P to angle's scopes <333
my heart goes out to guild of positive on Moonguard world of warcraft grats on 1,000 memeber!
and thank you to all who read this, I hope it helps in some way or another!

Wiki
A sniper is a marksman who shoots targets from concealed positions or distances exceeding the capabilities of regular personnel. Snipers typically have specialized training and distinct high-precision rifles.
In addition to marksmanship, military snipers are also trained in camouflage, field craft, infiltration, reconnaissance and observation.[1] Snipers are especially effective when deployed within the urban terrain of urban warfare, or jungle terrain of jungle warfare.

HISTORY

Second Boer War
The first British sniper unit began life as Lovat Scouts, a Scottish Highland regiment that earned high praise during the Second Boer War (18991902).[6] The unit was formed by Lord Lovat and reported to an American, Major Frederick Russell Burnham, the British Army Chief of Scouts under Lord Roberts. Burnham fittingly described these scouts as "half wolf and half jackrabbit.".[11] Just like their Boer scout opponents, these scouts were well practiced in the arts of marksmanship, field craft, and military tactics. They were also the first known military unit to wear a ghillie suit.[12] They were skilled woodsmen but also practitioners of discretion: "He who shoots and runs away, lives to shoot another day." After the war, this regiment went on to formally become the British Army's first sniper unit, then better known as sharpshooters.[11]
World War I
During World War I, snipers appeared as deadly sharpshooters in the trenches. At the start of the war, only Imperial Germany had troops that were issued scoped sniper rifles. Although sharpshooters existed on all sides, the Germans specially equipped some of their soldiers with scoped rifles that could pick off enemy soldiers showing their heads out of their trench.[8] At first the French and British believed such hits to be coincidental hits, until the German scoped rifles were discovered.[8] During World War I, the Germans received a reputation for the deadliness and efficiency of their snipers, partly because of the high-quality lenses the Germans could manufacture.[8]
Soon the British army began to train their own snipers in specialized sniper schools. Major Hesketh Hesketh-Prichard was given formal permission to begin sniper training in 1915, and founded the First Army School of Sniping, Observation, and Scouting at Linghem in France in 1916.[13] In 1920, he wrote his account of his war time activities in his book Sniping in France, which is still referenced by modern authors on the subject.[14][15][16] Hesketh-Prichard developed many techniques in sniping, including the use of spotting scopes and working in pairs, and using Kim's Game to train observational skills.[17] Both British and German sniper teams operated in pairs, with one sniper and one spotter. On the Eastern Front, Imperial Russia never introduced specialized sharpshooters or snipers, allowing the German snipers to pick off their targets without danger from counter-snipers.[8]
The British did use papier-mch figures painted to resemble soldiers to draw sniper fire. Some were equipped with rubber surgical tubing so the dummy could "smoke" a cigarette and thus appear realistic. Holes punched in the dummy by enemy sniper bullets then could be used for triangulation purposes to determine the position of the enemy sniper, who could then be attacked with artillery fire.
World war II
During the interbellum, most nations dropped their specialized sniper units, notably the Germans who had such a reputation during World War I. Effectiveness and dangers of snipers once again came to the fore during the Spanish Civil War. The only nation that had specially trained sniper units during the 1930s was the Soviet Union. Soviet snipers were trained in their skills as marksmen, in using the terrain to hide themselves from the enemy and the ability to work alongside regular forces. This made the Soviet sniper training focus more on "normal" combat situations than those of other nations.
Snipers reappeared as important factors on the battlefield from the first campaign of World War II. During Germany's 1940 campaigns, it appeared that lone, well hidden French and British snipers could halt the German advance for a significant amount of time. For example during the pursuit to Dunkirk, British snipers were able to significantly delay German infantry's advance. This prompted the British to once again increase training of specialized sniper units. Apart from marksmanship British snipers were trained to blend in with the environment, often by using special camouflage clothing for concealment. However, because the British Army offered sniper training exclusively to officers and non-commissioned officers, the number of trained snipers in the combat units considerably reduced overall effectiveness.[9]

Well here is a quick definiton of the training
Military sniper training aims to teach a high degree of proficiency in camouflage and concealment, stalking, observation and map reading as well as precision marksmanship under various operational conditions. Trainees typically shoot thousands of rounds over a number of weeks, while learning these core skills.
Snipers are trained to squeeze the trigger straight back with the ball of their finger, to avoid jerking the gun sideways. The most accurate position is prone, with a sandbag supporting the stock, and the stock's cheek-piece against the cheek. In the field, a bipod can be used instead. Sometimes a sling is wrapped around the weak arm (or both) to reduce stock movement. Some doctrines train a sniper to breathe deeply before shooting, then hold their lungs empty while they line up and take their shot. Some go further, teaching their snipers to shoot between heartbeats to minimize barrel motion.

Good post, I skimmed through after reading the first few paragraphs but all-in-all its very informatic.
Are you sure it's hard to no-scope in real life though? It looks pretty easy?

I'll let you borrow my .300 and try to no-scope all you want. Guarantee you that it's not easy. I tried once and that was way more than I want to do again.

Like I said I will take 100% ownership for this, and take copyright of it.
Meaning I will if I could take someone to court for stealing this...
