Ok so im getting an xbox that has a broken DVD drive... it wont read disks. It is a 2007 model but can i replace it with a old 2006 DVD drive i have? is it possible and will it work?

if you have the same brand for an optical drive such if your current drive is a hitachi it will def work with another hitachi or samsung to hitachi is more complicated.

these are 2 dif parts.
but i believe you have to switch the chip boards depending on current drive condition.
The drives are shaped the same but the chip boards are not digitally exact in design. This is complicated. I had ot fix mine. if hte 2006 drive doesn't work. you cna buy another one for 30 dollars or so.

does it make like 2 grinding like sounds when u pu tthe disc in ?
mine stoped working b4 and i did this
close the disc drive with no discs in it and wait 10 seconds
Do it 3 times

I think you need the DVD key of the original drive to make the swap though.

if the model of the 2006 is the same its easy... if not you will have to flash it....
if you want to fix the drive it will require a new laser
