Were to even begin? I would like to open my Der Riese 1st impressions review with the following statement. “Der Riese goes way beyond building + adding upon a solid foundation before it in this intense, satisfying, and out right mind blowing experience!”
When the game begins you spawn at the MF or “Main Frame” were the PaP or “Pack A Punch” machine is and there are 5 windows that need to be covered. You turn to go take a peek at the PaP machine but you can’t gain access. Thanks for the instant Torture Treyarch :-P … You are then quickly drawn to the massive buildings and lighting effects everywhere in the sky! There are large flames coming out of the smoke stacks in the factory! There’s a solar eclipse in the sky that will also draw you to take a look at. And you will notice creepy eyes and a nose “Skull like” in the clouds! The next thing you know you have windows being torn down. There are 2 very large gates that you can go through and you don’t know which way to go! We decided to go through a gate after round 5 finished and it took us to an area that was small and still outside. We then decided we had plenty of cash so we opened the next door and it took us inside. You notice Animal “Anime” Testing sign. You look around and see dead lab rats and bottles used for some sort of chemistry. Its cramped in there you have to run forward before you can take a full u turn almost and then go upstairs. You unlock the upstairs which leads you to a room were you will find a radio in the corner on top of a file cabinet that’s knocked over. You want to hit the switch but zombies are coming. There’s not a lot going on in this room it’s a square room with a couple filing cabinets. You then go out and cross a catwalk that leads you to your first “Portal” You notice a dead guy laying in some large round fan thing? in the room. You notice on the wall that all the portals are glowing red so you decide to go up to the portal and activate it. A clock then appears on the upper left screen counting down 30 seconds? What does this mean what are we suppose to do? You then have zombies coming at you so you back into a corner with your team and hope for the best. You make your way through all the other rooms and areas. This is a creepy creepy place! You make it to the Mystery Box and the electric switch. You turn on the power and notice the hand is on the switch again? Hmmmm. By this time the puppys have come to play. The first few are coming fairly strong and then all of a sudden you see a puppy slowing creeping up not locked on anyone and then wham it locks on to you and runs for you! You make it through the round but these HH’s are fairly strong you must stick together! You then decide to go out the next large gate that leads you directly to the “Bowie Knife” You pull it out and think wow that’s cool and switch to your guns because your comfortable with them. You search some more you find a place were there is an incinerator why is this here? And why isnt there anything written on the walls? it’s a very small room you click everywhere but don’t hear anything activate because the rooms to loud that your playing in! You make a mental note that there is something certainly in that room that you can either activate or something happens in there regarding the story of zombies! You notice in a room near by that there are other incinerators and you look inside one that’s not on fire and notice a radio box. By this time your getting fairly overwhelmed by the sheer amount of zombies coming at you your scrambling as a team to get to were its safe and backing up while shooting. You think you can outsmart the zombies by going up the stairs then jumping off the ledge but they follow you. They have learned a new trick? Your team works it way to the mystery box, your lost taking wrong turns but you eventually arrive and your team gets in a few spins 5 at the most and the mystery box starts laughing at you! and it moves. You look to the sky to see if it moves as it does in SNN and it does but it’s a lot harder to follow due to the massive buildings around you! The mystery box goes to some very small locations that are hard to hold up. There is one in particular that is very good for holding your ground and you are thankful! You then decide to hit another portal and you realize you have 30 seconds so you b line it back to the spawn were the PaP and notice that you can hit the button at the spawn in a round circle on the ground and you barely make it on your own but the portal gets “Linked” and the PaP machine front door slides down a bit! BUT STILL NO ACCESS! You then notice that there is a power up straight ahead from the spawn point most likely a skull or a bomb! But its pointless why give us a bomb or Skull the rounds already over? You tell your teammates to run back to the “Strategy” for safety so you can make it past the next round your taking wrong turns your going up stairs then jumping off a ledge through a small hallway and then finally back to the strat were your teammates are! The zombies are coming at you strong and your weapons don’t seem to be doing much damage. You get through the round and now that you know how to link up the portal’s you decide to “Train” the last zombie around and link up the final portals. By now I had a PPSH and a Browning and a ton of cash so I traded in the PPSH 5,000 if I remember correctly?! You notice the awesome animation of your character putting your gun into the PaP machine and out comes this Amazing Pimped out GUN! You SMILE and then look to the lower right and notice 700 round instead of 500! And what?!? Its called “The Reaper” By this time you would have already picked up all the perks spread through out the map as well. I was spinning in the box and picked up the monkey bomb before anyone in the room. I YELLED YES I GOT THE MONKEY BOMB. You notice quickly that it shows up were the bouncing bettys would normally show up and you have 4 of them! Sweet! I then tell John to get his camera ready to take video of the Monkey Bomb! I yell monkey bomb out and he puts his controller down and records the zombies gathering around the MB “Monkey Bomb” similar to that of the Pipe Bomb in Left 4 Dead but 10,000 times cooler! It blows up and leaves most of the zombies dead! You quickly realize that the MB isn’t your fix all that kills every zombie that’s in the radius! By now you have a round of hell hounds that are fairly tough. After the round we received the all important ammo drop and I noticed that it replenished my MB’s! Round 17 begins and its extremely tough the zombies are coming at us in hordes and what? The puppys are back and want in on the action! This round seemed like it took forever and the horde of zombies were never ending there were very few breaks in which the zombies aren’t coming! I had gathered up the most points due to having my weapons both PaP’d so I switched to cover the window so they could tally up there kills and score. I think to myself I bet the bowie knife might work fairly well on the windows so I whip it out and start knifing away! 2 stabs to kill 1 zombie WOW? I quickly realize that the bowie knife is going to be a vital role for the person covering the window! It also worked barely tapping the controller with a gun out and then 1 knife to finish them. The zombies were coming at the window in large hordes you get overwhelmed from all sides! Rounds 18-22 are smooth sailing everyone was playing there roles perfectly! 2 of our teammates rolling with PaP Ray guns. Round 23 hits and it was crazy they seemed to come at us even harder and the weapons seemed to be doing quit a bit less damage as well. My team is dropping like flys im running around the small square room attempting to revive the team but im out of monkey bombs so I decide to try and “Train” the zombies by this time about 20 people are huddled around us Treyarch employees and the others for the event and JD is telling me to use the portal use the portal, I had it stuck in my mind that I could get through it I thought it was towards the end of the round and thought I could train in the portal room. LOL ummm not happening they came from every direction quickly surrounding me and im down! I then realize that I should have taken JD’s advise to use the portal because we know that it commonly gives you a bomb or a skull after using it. And I could have possibly saved my teammates after picking up a bomb and running the gauntlet back to them to revive! People are clapping and I am exhausted mentally after 2 hours of pure intensity and just about the best gaming experience I have ever had in my life! JD then tells me that the portals later in the rounds give you less drops as well so every time you portal your not going to get something per say!
(Not sure if this is part 2/3 but ill stick it up. Again, a long read).
Vosty3 on Gameplay.
On New Weapons:
The monkey bomb is extremely rewarding and I highly recommend using it more defensively than offensively. It works great when your teammates are downed and you need the zombies cleared out of your room so you can revive your teammates. The bowie knife is a must have weapon its great on hell hounds its great for covering the window because you can kill a zombie with 2 stabs in the rounds of 20+ not sure beyond 23. Also I found it awesome to use "The Reaper" PPSH PaP by tapping it quickly @ the window on a zombie then knifing with the bowie once for some quick kills and very little ammo usage!
“PaP“ Pack A Punch:
The flamethrower is called the FIW when traded in we didn't get it unfortunately. But if I had to guess it prb has a longer range and doesn't get overheated as often but that's 100% my speculation and I didn't ask JD what it did because I wanted that to be a surprise. 16 guns can be traded in the ones I know that can so far because we did trade them in are the:
PPSH "The Reaper"
FG-42 forget name?
Browning "FU-A11"
Ray Gun forget name?
Wunderwaffe forget?!? lol fail anyways they are all pretty awesome names!
The Flamethrower we were told is FIW
When your downed you loose your perks I don't think you loose your PaP!?! I can't answer this to be 100% honest because we never went down after we had our PaP on until round 23 when we all died. Sorry! we will know soon tho!
I personally used the Bowie knife, PPSH PaP Reaper and the Browning FU-A11. Lets just put it this way... I felt very in control with that setup covering the windows while my teammates covered the portal room entry into our small square room... Sogo said the wunderwaffe acted like a ray gun and it had 30 rounds. The weapons are stronger and have more rounds!
On the Size/Look:
I would say SNN and DR are very similar in size. I think the major factor playing into Der Riese is your now having to watch the zombies movements on multiple levels because they can jump down from above and climb up from below... You will also love the option to jump off a ledge to escape down below. You will find yourself a bit disoriented like you were in shi no numa when you first started playing, I think this one through me off even more at first but after a few more hours in Der Riese I am sure Ill have it down extremely well! There is so much to look at and I mentioned that in thread 1/3 so if your looking for more I recommend reading that whole article.
Zombie + Hell Hound Movement/Animations:
The speed of the zombies seems the same to me as far as progression in previous zombie maps. More then anything this go around they added the PaP machines which totally rock! And because of that they added a lot more zombies rushing @ you to balance out that new addition. The other major thing is the new animations ie: wolflike "hell hounds" will @ times slowly walk towards your group in a corner and then randomly decide a person to run after its FTW and freaky! And of course zombies climbing up a ledge or jumping down. (I could be wrong but as the levels progressed the zombies appearance seemed to get more deformed + more Freaky?) Brilliant animation editions made throughout this map release I didn't mentioned them all! You will no doubt be blown away with the animations and things the zombies can do ie: jump off a ledge, climb up a ledge etc etc
Was there a Giant boss?
Der Riese is referred to as "The Giant" if you research it on google. It was a "Giant" facility that the nazi party used to do all sorts of things. So the rumor of there being a "Giant" boss guy is untrue. That doesn't mean that Treyarch won't do anything like that in future releases if they decide to though, I think we all wouldn't mind fighting off a boss in the end!
Can more than 1 person have the monkey bomb?
Please don't quote me because im not 100% certain on this because I put back my monkey bombs at one point to see what would happen If i purchased bettys off the wall and lost my monkey bomb.
Audio:
DR will not disappoint. We actually played with the lead coder of Der Riese and he enabled the song for us without us looking to see what he did to do it! lol so mean no worries we will find it tho! The new dialogue by the survivors is hilarious they actually interact now which is very cool its not just one character saying a line they will actually play off one another! Which is epic WIN! I found 2 or 3 radios I forget and from what I could barely hear the audio in those will not dissapoint and seemed to be very revealing!
Strategy:
We created a strategy that I know is good for 30+ and most likely way beyond that.
1) Have 3 people cover a window each and leave 1 person up top were you spawn on the MF "Main Frame" that way he can cover the extra window not covered and his teammates when they get in a bind.
2) Let the zombies in the windows your more likely to get x2 perks and other benefits ie: ammo drops.
3)Shoot the zombies in the foot or chest 6 times then knife. Works well for the first several rounds
4)Purchase the guewher off the wall and get some headshots ftw!
5)After doing this through round 6 (once again no reason to board up
windows through out this time they are very easy rounds) you then open up the right side and head all the way to the ??? Area and Eletric fence. Activate the fence and start spinning. Do not open up the gate that leads to the bowie just yet as there is a round of Puppys headed your way!
6)Start trapping at the end of each level in order to get the weapons you need and be ready for the next round.
7)Once the ??? moves after that round is over keep a zombie alive so you can buy the gate by the Eletricity switch/??? 1st spawn point and then buy the bowie knife and purchase your way all the way up to the main Portal.
8)Once your up in the main portal your going to want to sync it to the MF at the end of a round most likely as it will be easier. I recommend always doing all the syncing of the portals at the end of a round with a zombie either trapped at a window or by training him.
9)Sync all portals. So that you can access PaP.
10)At the end of each round your going to want to be back up in portal "C" I believe its the one with the catwalk leading to it and theres a small square room off to the right of the portal! You can easily hold this area down the zombies will flow directly at you. We held it through level 23 when we lost a bit of focus and were low on ammo.
11)Put a person on the window and the other 3 cover the intrance the zombies will flow directly at the 3 guys covering the door way place bettys in the room spread throughout!
*While I was covering the window I would simply pop off a few rounds of my PPSH one little tap of the gun (using very little ammo) and then a knife and they died. Or I would stab them twice with the knife it does 1000 damage and at level 20-23 was killing them with 2 stabs everytime ftw! You will <3 using the Bowie @ the windows its like using the sawed off double barrel in verruckt to cover the window or the reverse strat were you cover the rock wall but a million times better because you don't have to reload!
***THIS ISN'T THE FINALIZED STRATEGY*** Remember we had about 2 1/2 hours of gameplay in Der Riese and the rest in MP
What level did you get too?
As far as Der Riese. We got to level 23 (Took 2 hours of gameplay roughly) 2nd attempt @ actually trying to play the map the way its meant to be played. Watch our video footage below (We are currently adding more to it because there were other people Matt to name 1 who recorded video of our gameplay!) Thanks again to John and Matt for doing that!

8)Once your up in the main portal your going to want to sync it to the MF at the end of a round most likely as it will be easier. I recommend always doing all the syncing of the portals at the end of a round with a zombie either trapped at a window or by training him.
9)Sync all portals. So that you can access PaP.
10)At the end of each round your going to want to be back up in portal "C" I believe its the one with the catwalk leading to it and theres a small square room off to the right of the portal! You can easily hold this area down the zombies will flow directly at you. We held it through level 23 when we lost a bit of focus and were low on ammo.
11)Put a person on the window and the other 3 cover the intrance the zombies will flow directly at the 3 guys covering the door way place bettys in the room spread throughout!
*While I was covering the window I would simply pop off a few rounds of my PPSH one little tap of the gun (using very little ammo) and then a knife and they died. Or I would stab them twice with the knife it does 1000 damage and at level 20-23 was killing them with 2 stabs everytime ftw! You will <3 using the Bowie @ the windows its like using the sawed off double barrel in verruckt to cover the window or the reverse strat were you cover the rock wall but a million times better because you don't have to reload!
***THIS ISN'T THE FINALIZED STRATEGY*** Remember we had about 2 1/2 hours of gameplay in Der Riese and the rest in MP
What level did you get too?
As far as Der Riese. We got to level 23 (Took 2 hours of gameplay roughly) 2nd attempt @ actually trying to play the map the way its meant to be played. Watch our video footage below (We are currently adding more to it because there were other people Matt to name 1 who recorded video of our gameplay!) Thanks again to John and Matt for doing that!

i read the whole thing, and it sounds really good. but i'll try and shorten it up, and tell you some of the main bits:
• you spawn at the 'main frame', where the pack a punch machine is. there is a solar eclipse in the sky, and there is a 'skull like' shape in the clouds.
• you get 4 monkey bombs, and it does work much the same as a pipe bomb in left 4 dead.
• during dogs, some hell hounds, 'slowly creep up not locked on anyone, and then wham it locks on to you and runs at you'.
• when you activate a portal, a clock appears in the top left screen, counting down 30 seconds. if you make it to the next portal in that time, the pack a punch door slides down 'a bit'. but you do get a power-up after linking the portals (usually a bomb or skull). but the chances of getting one get slimmer in the later rounds
• he put the ppsh in the pack a punch, it came out with 700 rounds instead of 500, and it's called 'the reaper'?
• he says on round 17, that 'the zombies are coming at us in hordes, and what? the puppies are back and want in the action!', a round after hell hounds.
• by the sounds of things, there are LOTS of easter eggs, and it also sounds really fun!!

in the video doesn't it look like they are doing a glitch?
starting at 6:05...check it out...
and i think i remember someone saying that is a new power-up called the hammer and they were shouting out get it get it...well they were talking about the monkey bomb...and WOW that is destructive

Nice job man. That seems so intense. I can't wait for it at all. I could just imagine my self in the spot fending off. That just seems crazy.
