THIS IS NOT LIKE INCEPTION! INCEPTION WAS BASED ON THIS! lol Just-a clearin' that upz.
I just saw Dawn's post (shes awesome!) on sleep, and it reminded me of what I spent a few weeks learning myself.
It's called Lucid Dreaming.
Have you ever had a dream that you could control, and it felt extremely vivid and real?
This is the basis of Lucid Dreaming, you just did it on accident!
Lucid Dreaming is pretty much defined as having your mind awake, and your body asleep at the same time, where you are conscious enough to have a dream, but a bit more, so you are more actively in tune with the dream.
Some people do this naturally (unlike myself DX lol) and it is NOT, I repeat, NOT a health issue. It is simply having an elevated dream.
Some other background about it:
When you sleep, your brainwaves constantly change frequencies, and your body goes through different phases. Dreaming only happens in what is called REM sleep. (Rapid Eye Movement) This is where dreaming occurs. It borderlines consciousness, so your mind can effectively play out a dream on then, because any more asleep means that it won't happen. (durr) Your brainwaves are the highest frequency when you are Lucid Dreaming, actually going HIGHER than if you were awake! It is a perfectly safe practice! Now onto the other things.
Here is a good question to you, to really make you decide if you want to pursue this:
If I could give you a land, where you could do ANYTHING you would want to do for about four hours, would you go?
For most people, the immediate answer would be something like this: OMG OMG OMGYESSSSS!
But sadly, it isn't that simple of a practice.
If you decide that you really want to do this, then read onwards, but if you don't, then I don't see why.
Things you must do to practice LDing (Lucid Dreaming):
1. Get a good night's sleep or two before your first attempt. You need to be well rested and focused.
2. Start keeping a dream journal! Get a little notebook, and wake yourself up about half an hour to 20 minutes early every other morning, and see if you can train yourself to truly remember your dreams. What fun is an LD (Lucid Dream) when you can't remember it? This will also help with DILDing, which I will get into later in the post.
3. Do NOT try for an LD every night. It will exhaust you. Trust me, I know.
4. If you do happen to have an LD, do NOT go for summoning a sexy woman, and, well, you know... Doing that. It will make your physical body start pumping adrenaline which will then wake you up. It take MASSIVE amounts of control to even fly in a dream, which I have learned to do. It is EXTREMELY hard to do what was mentioned above. Trust me, I tried it, and ruined a great LD.
5. Use subliminal suggestion before you go to bed. I will post a link that has two different flash videos that are great for intensifying dreams and causing LDs.
Now that you have read that wall of text, it's time to get onto actually LDing!
Believe me, it is harder than it sounds.
DILDing
This is the most common way of LDing. It stands for Dream Initiated Lucid Dream. It is essentially being conscious enough to recognize that something is wrong in your dream, such as a floating cow, or that a clock that you looked at has a completely improper time (EX. 9:73) or that the time drastically changed from the first time you looked at it.
The recognizing may seem easy, but it does take some practice.
Here are some ways to help you with this.
1. Do routine Reality Checks (RCs) throughout the day planned out at certain times.
What is a reality check, you may ask? It is pretty much something that you can do in a dream that you can't do IRL. (in real life)
Common RCs include pinching your nose and trying to breathe, (if it works, you are definitely dreaming!) trying to push a finger through the palm of your other hand, (self explanatory lol) and jumping a little. (In you dream, if you jump, you will most likely not come down so quickly lol. You will probably jump very high. You would then obviously be dreaming. So let me ask you now, are you dreaming? (RC now lol)
This works best if you also keep a dream journal. You will be able to recognize reoccurring dreams and make them into LD's!
Listening to LDing Binaural Beats while sleeping and trying to do this can help IMMENSELY! I will try to post a few below.
DILDs often give short but sparratic LDs. You can be in control one second and completely not another. They aren't exactly very vivid either, but are the easiest and most practiced way of LDing.
The Hard One: WILDing!!!!
This is the technique that I use. It is essentially going directly from consciousness into the dreaming world. It is a very hard technique that I have only really pulled off about two or three times, but I have DILDed probably around fifteen. (It doesn't sound like a lot, but you try doing it!)
To WILD:
You may lay on your back to sleep (it seems to help a LOT) and meditate. (Just relax a LOT) You should either Daydream about something that isn't repetitive, (you want to keep your mind awake, so keep different things going!) I also find that if you concentrate on your breathing alone, and try to force out all other thoughts, it works the same way, and I would suggest the breathing way WAY more.
As you relax, tense every group of muscles you have, starting from your feet, to the knees, to the thighs, to the stomach, to the chest, to the arms, to the neck, and then finally, to the face. If you are relaxed enough, you should hardly be able to feel your body after this step. Also, remember to not tense too hard, that would wake you up! Go SLOWLY! You're in no rush! Continue the breathing this whole time. Deep breaths.
Now, slowly imagine yourself sinking down into your bed, very slowly, going down tier after tier, all the while breathing. Relax deeper, and imagine that your bed is your consciousness, and you are drifting closer to sleep without really falling.
You should eventually feel a large vibrating feeling all over your body, and sounds maybe. DO NOT GET SCARED AND FREAK OUT. It is natural, this happens every night when you sleep, you just aren't aware of it! This is called SLEEP PARALYSIS. This makes your body unable to move, and sets your body up to fall into unconsciousness. Ride this out, and you will probably start to see figures or different colors or shapes. These are hypnogogical images. These are a good sign! Shortly after everything becomes quiet after the vibration stops, if it happens to you like that, you may just enter your dream. If that happens, good for you! You just successfully WILDed! If it didn't, then do this: Imagine yourself as a party popper, the things that you pull the string, and fireworks come out. Imagine yourself getting pulled slowly out of your body, and into the dream world. After this, attempt to open your "Dream Eyes". This is hard to explain, but try to open your eyes, but in your mind. You should be greeted with your dream. Congrats! You WILDed!
NOW: KEEPING LUCIDITY!
1. Try to stay calm the whole while you are in your dream. Increased heart rate = wake up = pissed off you.
2. For stability, rub your hands together IN YOUR DREAM. This should make everything clearer and anchor you to the dream.
3. TOUCH EVERYTHING! It will anchor you more!
4. If you feel yourself loosing control, or the dream seems like it froze, and it seems to be dissolving, then spin like you were doing a ballerina move. It sounds stupid, but in a last minute thing, it should change your dream scene (where you are) and add stability.
5. NO INAPROPRO STUFF. It will wake you up so fast it's ridiculous.
Have fun!
You probably will have very little stability when you LD for the first time, and you are likely to become excited and even wake up right away. If you do, don't worry!
DEILDing! Dream Exit Induced Lucid Dream.
When you wake up, STOP. DON'T MOVE A MUSCLE. If done correctly, you should fell right back to sleep, and you can enter the same dream or another LD by going directly back into your REM cycle. (Your Dream Cycle)
Well Guys, that was an hour and a half well spent! Here are a few links that I know off the top of my head, more to add later!

More to add later.
