For example, what's the difference between the default_mp.ff and the default.xex or whatever they all are? And how many are there for mw2? It's 2 I think, please confirm. Sorry if it's a nooby question.

ahhh... there is no such thing as a default_mp.ff
but i'm pretty sure you talking about a
default_mp.xex and a default.xex
well a default.xex if clicked on in xex menu will start up the game normaly and you can play
on the other hand the default_mp.xex will boot up a game but bring you right to multiplayer. Not every game has a default_mp.xex obviously cause every game doesn't have multiplayer.

Xex is like an executable for xbox games
Ff is a fastfile and is compressed and ran to run quicker so the game can load faster
