I also agree with you, i have a season ticket there, right next to the away end (TOP STAND).
However i went to stoke away and they were.. LOUD.
They're 'WHOLE' stadium actually sings and jumps, if only the whole of st James's did that, then we'd most defiantly be the loudest in the prem / if not the world.

i was at ibrox for the scottish cup qaurter final last year against dundee united, and there was around 22000 rangers fans? surely for a qaurter final they should have a descent home support?

that was my first time at ibrox and was a really good game but the 2 penalties given to rangers were a bit dodgy!
