So, I got given a PS3 that doesn't work. The story is that the guy that gave it to me had it as a tethered jailbreak console with his ipod touch, and then he tried to update to a new firmware. Problem was that he didn't have the BD in, and the firmware never finished. To try and fix this, he formatted the hard drive. Now all I can get into is the recovery menu, and all options fail with either a quick restart (with no xmb, its just a black screen with no input) or Fatal Error, or hard drive access failure or something. I read up, and I guess it's nand is corrupted. He said that the firmware on it should be at least 3.41, and he doesn't remember the firmware he tried to update it to.

Any way to clean out, uncorrupt, or remedy this issue?

Yeah, I can't upgrade or degrade (Downgrade) because the update option in recovery just gives me "A serious technical error has occured."
