I have the iPod touch 4 too and it didn't do that. Try re Jailbreaking it and see if that works.

Untethered means when it turns off i don't have to go to my computer to boot it?

yes, untethered means that if it dies or you have to reboot it then you wll NOT have to boot it up with your computer
