Is it possible to use an external desktop hardrive(profile,xex menu,games patches etc) instead of the standard hdd hardrive? as a main?

yeah, is it usb or Sata? if its usb format to FAT32, then use a program called swissknife to create a partition, make it any size I suggest 16gig. then this can be configured on the xbox as a memory device.
(NOTE: This will only configure the 16g, this is handy for transfering profiles,Dlc,GOD games etc)
To use the rest of the External drive just create folders on the root of the drive like: Games,Emus,Apps, Music etc.Xex menu can be then used to access these folders.

PS. Look up on how to Ftp to your jtag using flash FXP handy for moving files your HDD's
