Should try it out, I doubt that they will downgrade you to a refurbished pro or arcade.

Remove your hard drive, give it RROD and send it in

Maybe they might send you a slim with no hard drive but there is a video on youtube showing how use your elite hard drive on the slim

They would just fix it by replacing parts or replacing thermal paste etc.
