Anyone know a way to at least temporarily fix the red ring of death without towels?

try and stand it up or reverse lay down and unplug all cables then plug back in

Just give the xbox a break for a few days. Sometimes, you get overheating read rings of death. This happened to me

try disconeecting everything from xbox for around 15 mins including hard drive.. it fixed it for me once

Try and make sure all cables have been fully plugged in, happened to me after I got it back from a RROD reapir but one of the cables wasnt plugged in tightly and I was about to do the towel trick.
