Okay well the first thing you are wanting to get good at is knowing your players for example if you have a fast players on the wing (Left midfielder's & right midfielder's) then you are going to want to use the wings a lot (the side of the pitch). If you have tall strikers like Crouch or Zigic then you are going to use that to your advantage by crossing in balls to the box and using your strikers height to your advantage.

Next is passing. You are going to want to have good CM (Centre Midfield) that are good at passing to feed good balls to your strikers. If you have players that aren't good at passing then you may find it hard to play a pass to your strikers that gives them a good chance to score.

Defending is a crucial thing in the game because you don't want to concede goals in a match so the best way to defend is using a 5 man defence or a 4 man defence, I wouldn't advise you using a 3 man defence because sure you have a good chance when attacking but if you loose the ball and they counter attack then you could be in trouble. If you want your defenders to stay where they are because when you attack your LB & RB sometimes decide to take a stroll up field so if you want to prevent this then all you need to do is switch your tactics to Ultra-Defensive and all you need to do is when you are in a game just press left on the D-Pad.

The hardest but best way to score is taking the ball to near the corner of the box and run across the 18 yard box from a corner towards the centre and curl the ball towards the top corner. You can curl the ball by pressing the RB + B then put the power bar about 2 bars full. Try this a few times in practice mode and get used to it.
