You can do it once, I think. When you get a bot infection for System Link, play that match for a bit, but then leave and go into a Private Match, and (for me, anyway), the bots will spawn the first time you try but not after that.

heres the patch,start sys link,join on retail and join on jtag straight after,wait about 20 secs then press dpad up twice on jtag,pick a class again on retail,wait 20 secs then back out,go to private match,as its loading a load of txt should show on screen if bots are added,if they are you can do a cod 4 10th lobby as xp sticks,tell people to back out presige and re-join,if it dosnt work 1st time turn jtag and retail off and try again as it is a bit hit n miss but should only take 3 attempts at most,usualy 1st time but it will work,just be patient,its worth it

did that work?

I think I have figured it out. First get infected, then play a system link bot match till level 55. Then go online on a private match and voila! You also have to change the map on private match as well. It's a 50/50 thing, either the bots spawn or they don't spawn. Oh yeah, you can go down levels, but just kill a few bots and that fixes it. But if the bots don't spawn you have to get re infected.
