I know what you mean, when you have just joined the site, only have few posts etc. those people are ignored. If it helps you should buy Gold, i know it's stupid but when you have Gold, more people help you out n stuff.

It's not really about accepting. If you just simply help alot of people out you will meet and talk to some of the more "known" people. Most of the time posts and rep have alot to do with it. BTW, being gold helps ;)

its not a certian time period, you have to get well known enough and help people out and dont post spam
