Well I have had my own MineCraft server for awhile now and there can be some confusing errors that you can run into while making your server or even after it's made. So, I've compiled a list of problems I've ran into and fixed as an FAQ to help people that run into the same problems!

Q: How do I create a minecraft server?

A: This is a long complicated process to explain and so it's best for you to just watch a YouTube video on it so that you don't get confused.

Q: When I run my server why does it says there's already a server binded to that port?

A: It means that you ran the .jar file that creates your server files twice, you will need to delete the server.lck files in your server folder. To do this you will have to run your computer in safe mode or else it will not let you delete them.

Q: Why does it say there is not enough ram to run my server when I have enough on my computer?

A: You won't be able to run your server on all of your computer's ram and if you find a way, I wouldn't recommend it because it's unsafe. You will need to edit the run.bat for your server and look for something like "-Xms1024M" (there will be 2 of them, one for 64 bit machines and 1 for 32 bit machines, just change them both if you want) then change the amount it uses to about half of what your computer has or just lower it until it works. 1024m is equal to 1gb of ram so if your computer has 3 gb of ram the highest you could set it to and have it work is about 1536m.

Q: How come I can join my server but other people cannot?

A: You have port fowarded the wrong IP or you have a firewall on your router that blocks anonymous Internet requests, making it so people cannot join. To fix this go to your cmd for your computer and type "ipconfig" then make sure that the IP you fowarded is the same as the one on the cmd called "Ipv4 address" also go to into your router and check the firewall settings to make sure nothing like "block Internet requests" or "block anonymous Internet requests" is checked, if it is, uncheck it.

Q: How do I add plugins to my server?

A: You will need a bukkit server to run plugins, go to bukkit.org and download the latest build and run your server off that. Once you have a bukkit server simply download any plugins you want and put the .jar file into the folder called "plugins". The next time you run your server it will automatically detect them.

Q: How come when I install a texture pack my minecraft won't work?

A: This usually means that the texture pack you're trying to install is not compatible with the current minecraft version. There is not way to fix this unless the creator of the texture pack updates it.

Q: How come people get an end of stream error when they try to connect to my server?

A: This usually means that they have a different version of minecraft then the one your server uses. You will need to update your minecraft server by downloading the latest build. If you use bukkit they usually take awhile to release a new build that is compatible with the latest minecraft version. So, you can either download the latest build from minecraft.net and have your plugins not work for awhile OR, stay on an older server build and tell people to not update their minecraft client/downgrade their minecraft client.

Q: I accidently download the minecraft update and now I can't connect to a server, how do I downgrade my client?

A: You will need to go into your .minecraft folder and replace minecraft.jar with the older version that you want. NOTE: If you did not backup your minecraft.jar file then it is technically illegal to download an older minecraft.jar from someone because distribution of minecraft clients is prohibited. So from now on, I recommend you save backups of your minecraft.jar file frequently.

Q: Why do I lag so much when I play minecraft?

A: It depends, if you're lagging on single player it's because your computer is not strong enough to run minecraft at full speed and I would recommend you turn down the fog to the closest setting or whatever setting stops the lag. If you're only lagging on multiplayer then it is either your Internet connection or the server you are on. You can find out by testing if you lag as bad on other servers, I also recommend you stay on a server located in your country to reduce the lag.

I will update this with more questions as I think of them!

Comments/thanks/and all is appreciated to keep the thread alive !
