It depends on your favored genre of game. Starcraft is an RTS (Real-Time Strategy) game while Minecraft is an Open-World RPG/Adventure game.
Starcraft is a good game for both casual and hardcore players as the single-player campaign is stunningly well designed with varying levels of difficulty and the online multiplayer is extremely competitive when in higher leagues.
Minecraft on the other hand focuses more on the players creativity and imagination. It allows you to create absolutely anything you can think of (other than objects that aren't possible to be made out of cubes )with little skill involved, just time. It also appeals to both casual and hardcore gamers as it is both easy to pick up, but complicated enough to ensure hardcore players remain interested.
I personally enjoy both. Minecraft for fun and unleashing my inner child by building with blocks and Starcraft for when I'm feeling competitive
