PlayStation Network Is Back
Posted on May 15th, 2011 in Business, Video Games
For all of those gamers who have been waiting so patiently to play SOCOM 4, Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat online need not wait any longer as the PlayStation Network Is Back in the U.S.A.
Sony begin their Phased Restoration of the PlayStation Network (PSN) late yesterday in the United States, with most states having access to the network early Sunday morning. While the PlayStation Store still isnt up, this is big news for gaming fans who love online play.
A mandatory firmware update, v3.61, is required before signing back into the network. This will allow gamers to change their passwords upon re-entry. They then can make any necessary changes they want, like deleting credit card information, change of email address, or user name. According to a blog on Sony PlayStations website, you will only be able to change the PSN account on the original PS3 system that it was created on. For those PSN users that bought used PS3 systems or never used their PSN to download content, will receive an email instructing them on how to change their passwords.
While the PlayStation Store wont be up and running until the end of May, Sony and PlayStation have returned some features to us this weekend. Players now have access to PlayStation Home; they are now allowed to sign into PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. Online game-play has been restored to both the PS3 and PSP. Users will have access to 3rd party subscription like Hulu Plus, Vudu, MLB.tv, and Netflix. Music Unlimited powered by Qirocity is up for current subscribers on both the PC and PS3. PlayStation users also have access to PSN Friends which includes Friends List, Chat features and Trophy Compare.
